Topher drew his wings tight around him and looked sullen. That was sort of a thing with him today, the sullenness.

Look, his shirt was uncomfortable and yesterday had been absolutely awful except for the Tony part and he just hated everything. Ugh.

"That's... not quite what she does," Ender settled on. "Emotions, that kind of thing. That's what she can read. When she's not preoccupied."

"...she said she could read every single thought and figure out exactly how to make me miserable," Topher pointed out.

"Either way," he said, before Topher mired them into a battle of details, "It doesn't sound like she was really thinking."

"Because she's stupid," Topher groused.

Look, it had been an easy opening.

"Because she was scared," Ender corrected lightly. "I don't think you were at your smartest, either."

[dollpocalypse]

"Sure I was," Topher objected. "I knew to run away."

"Into the bathroom," Ender said.

"Because I had no clothes."

[endsthegame]

"Then if you were acting rationally, why not take the clothes?"

[dollpocalypse]

"I didn't know where they were," Topher flailed. "And -- wings!"

"So you were scared, and surprised, and you didn't think of searching for the clothes?" Ender prompted.

[dollpocalypse]

"No," said Topher, "I was trying to get away from her, and I didn't know where there were clothes that would fit over the wings, or if she'd yell at me for taking them."

"But the bathroom left you without an escape," Ender pointed out.

[dollpocalypse]

"...so I should look for escape routes whenever I see her?"

[endsthegame]

"No, my point is this," Ender said, making a good show of not sighing. "You panicked. So the first thing on your mind was not 'what's the best way out', but 'what's the way out'."
