At the store today, Topher was working on writing a couple of scripts for that AI that he and Tony had been working on. This had him... a little flustered.

And he occasionally excused himself for five or ten minutes at a time to run into town and pick up more free food from the dance.

Shame? Topher knew not of what you spoke.

"But how do you *know*?" Wait, this was Topher, he'd never get a hint. Even a broad one. "I sent some, okay? As a friend. Don't let Dave steal them." She nobbled another chocolate. "You're not going with a date?" Well. That might've been too much to hope for. "The food's probably going to be great."

Topher gave her possibly the most baffled look in the world.

"Huh?"

None of that made any sense to him whatsoever. Any. At all.

"So you'd have flowers to give someone else," Kenzi emphasized. "Since I knew you wouldn't think of it." She shook her head. "Dude, people do that stuff for Valentine's Day. Don't read anything into it from me."

Although, Topher was looking very cute today. For him.

Topher persisted in looking confused, but shifted to the second point.

"Why would I have a date?"

"Because it's a dance?" Kenzi suggested. "And people do that? ... unless you're climbing on Peter's 'got better things to do' train." She reached over to poke the drink towards him. "And it's more fun with a date, seriously."

"Ewww." Topher made a face. "I don't... like people."

Seriously, Kenzi. Get with it.

Not even Billy? Kenzi wanted to ask. But if Billy hadn't asked Topher either, then... well. She let it go with a shrug. "Enh. Your loss. And question!" She bounced again, off on a totally other tangent. "Are you working on any big projects lately? I need help, and it may not be totally up your alley, but you'd probably be able to get it started."

Topher glanced at his laptop.

"Noooo." No projects at all, Kenzi. Nope. Zero. "What do you need?"

Up to something? Not that she had a prayer of figuring it out if it was on his computer. Kenzi made a mental note, but moved on to, "I'm helping make the props for the play this semester at the Boards. One of them is supposed to be a motorcycle we can pull onto the stage. Something that sounds real, but doesn't give off real engine fumes, so we don't kill the audience. Would you be up for helping, or at least helping me scavenge parts for something that looks good?"

Topher eyed her. "I... don't really do that stuff," he said slowly, looking like he thought she should already know this. "I can see if I can get some of the parts from somewhere?"

"You make robots," Kenzi pointed out. Which showed how much she could tell the difference. "But that would help, yeah. The engine-ish parts, at least. I can probably scavenge a body from somewhere."

Not... an actual body. "Reminds me, I have to look around for a roast beef supplier."

Topher blinked.

"...why?"

"'Cause there's a part with a carved-up dead body, and we have to make it look like they're actually going to eat it," Kenzi said. Aren't you glad you asked?

A beat.

Then Topher grinned. "Cool."

Meanwhile his player retched into the trash can.

"I know!" Kenzi beamed. The theater was awesome. "So yeah, sometime this week, maybe, let me know what you can order?"

Right there with you, really.

"'Kay," Topher said. "I'll go to the, uh, junkyard or something. Or talk to a supplier. Something like that."

Or he would just ask Tony.
