Ah, the first day of rehearsals at the Boards. It was just the sort of thing to make Jono show up looking... if not happy then at least slightly less grumpy than usual, with a stack of scripts in his arms complete with sheet music. Well, she had. But under the impression that she'd just had a job at Mooby Land earlier in the day, too.

[SP is imminent because I'm onna train, but I figure you'll be SP-y too so things should work out. Also, in the grand tradition of... well, Petra before her, Nat will actually keep the role. She just wants to be a little ASDFGHJKL GREMLINS first. :D]

This was going to be the story of his life, wasn't it? Casting people who didn't want the roles they'd been in or anything to do with the show at all?

"I was bitten by a gremlin," Natalie replied, matter-of-factly. "I also thought I worked at Mooby Land." A beat. "And that I was named after cheese."

So. Not the greatest day for an audition.

No, not particularly. Jono frowned a little at that revelation, looking down at his notes again.

"You... did do a good job at the audition that you didn't mean to attend, though," he said after a moment. "Are you certain you wouldn't consider taking the role? Those bites do a lot of things to people, but I've never seen them create any sort of talent that wasn't actually already there."

Well hello there, Natalie's half-dormant vanity.

She shrugged a shoulder. "I have a background in music. I just don't know if I'm really right for the show."

She hadn't exactly hit the part of her life where she'd be the queen of strutting on stage, yet.

That was... actually fairly casually said, all things considered. Jono was getting used to people complaining about their roles by this point, he was sort of resigned to the fact that this show was going to probably hit every possible snag along the way.

That said, he wasn't giving up without a fight.

"Are you at least familiar with the show already, luv?"

"Yes." Duh, it was Petey Sci-Fi. She didn't get how there were people from contemporary modern worlds who weren't familiar with it. "But do you really want someone who didn't even want to audtion?"

Notice how that didn't mean actually getting a part hadn't changed her opinion of things.

Jono raised an eyebrow at that one.

"I have one girl who was so upset that she got a chorus role that she got her father to ring me up and attempt to buy a better part for her," he intoned. "You're one hell of a talent, it would be a shame to let someone like you go and then have to fill that role with somebody like her. Not only did Troy and I both agree that you have what it takes to pull it off, but considering how honest you're being about this much, you seem like the sort of person that it would be a pleasure to work alongside through the performances, as well."

He didn't give compliments like that lightly, really.

To say Natalie smiled at that would've been an overstatement. It was more like the tiniest little twitch of one of the corners of her mouth, there for a second and then gone again.

Shush, she was mildly susceptible to compliments on both her honesty and her talent. Not a lot of people liked the first, not a lot of people knew about the second.

"Okay," she said, after a pause. "Guess I'll give it a shot."

What could Jono say? He liked people who said it as they saw it. It meant there was just one less thing he needed to worry about being double-crossed over somewhere down the road.

"Excellent," he decided, with the slightest twitch of his own lips as a sort of almost-smile echo of her own. "I'm looking forward to having you aboard, luv. And thank you."

If he had been made to re-cast this show after all that, he'd probably just throw his hands up.
