Mooby Land, Thursday

Jan 12, 2012 12:58

The regular Mooby Land staff were a bit confused. A random girl had just shown up sort-of-but-not-really apologetic about being late, insisted she worked here because "come on, I wasn't that late, you can't fire me for that!", put on a white cap none of them remembered seeing at the restaurant before, and scrawled the name of a cheese on her ( Read more... )

"Heyyyy," Peter drawled as he walked into the building, his hat sitting on his head at a jaunty angle.

He took his cigarette out of his mouth and made a big production of tossing it onto the floor and stamping it out. He threw the befuddled staff a look that read I know I'm late and I don't care. "So what's cooking?"

He should be, clearly. He just didn't get paid enough to care.

Natalie wrinkled her nose at the cigarette, because she was wholesome like that. Then she looked over at the random server who she'd designated the manager. "See, if he can get away with that, then my mild tardiness shouldn't count for anything!"

The 'manager' said nothing, as he was kind of stuck on "uh, why does there have to be another one?".

Peter rolled his eyes. "Chill, chill," he said, sauntering towards the counter. "No reason to get all worked up."

"They were on my case for not showing up on time," Natalie replied, defensively. Not that it was even remotely true. "I'm just sticking up for myself. Not that I intend on hanging around here forever, anyway."

"Oh, right," Peter said, grinning. "We're all going to get out of this town, right?"

Pfft. That sounded like so much effort.

Natalie frowned at him. "Hey, don't mock it," she admonished. "I saw audition posters on my way. I think I'm gonna do that. They could make me a star."

She wasn't even sure what the auditions were for.

Peter shrugged idly. "Hey, it's your life," he said, fishing around his pockets for another cigarette. And his phone. "At least there'd be less freaking customers..."

"No, there'd be more customers for you," Natalie replied, and tried to idly make herself useful by rearranging a stack of those cardboard things fries went into.

The stack almost toppled over because she wasn't really paying attention to it. "Not that you do much as it is."

Peter slipped the cigarette into his mouth, but didn't light it yet. Instead, he started poking around his phone, which had suddenly and mysteriously acquired Angry Birds.

And... some other apps. "Oh, did you see that app that looks like a glass of beer?"

Natalie rolled her eyes. "Why would I want I be interested in something like that?"

Ignore how she was already leaning over. She was bored, darnit.

"Here, look," Peter said, revealing the app! ... Which was a glass of beer, yep.

And then he tilted it.

The fake beer seemed to leave the glass. "The marvels of modern technology."

"Truly," Natalie replied, dryly. "Someone spent time on making that? Why would you do that?"

"'Cause it's cool," Peter said, his voice mildly muffled due to, well. Unlit cigarette.

He glanced up past his phone. "What do you think that guy wants?"

"I know cool," Natalie replied, "and that isn't it." She would've liked to think so, anyway. Then she, too, looked up. "Manical laughing guy? Don't know."

Neither did she really want to know.

"You wanna spit on his burger, or should I?" Peter asked, and tipped his phone right back. "Heh. Filled up."

"He hasn't done anything that bad yet," Natalie shrugged. Because that... might have been the only thing holding her back. "You deal with it, I'm gonna go in the back and play a little."

Her attempts at being responsible at this job were fickle at best.
