Fortunately, Fandom had been remembered back into existence after the sun had gone down, or Jessica would've been fairly crispy. As it was, she was psyched that everything seemed to be back to normal back in Louisiana -- with the exception of Sookie still being missing ( Read more... )

"So something dire took the place of pizza. An honest but sad exchange," Hercules said. "All drinks are on me, tonight. But in a 'I'm paying' sort of way. Not the bodyshots way."

"... That's a relief," Warren informed Herc, his eyes going wide for a moment. "I'm not really a bodyshots kind of guy."

Well. Not off of his teachers.

"It would be inappropriate with, since I am your teacher," Hercules said. "But some time I should take you to a bar with willing ladies to teach you an important lesson in that art."

Hercules was still operating under the assumption that Warren was now a free agent, of course.

Silly Hercules. Warren was in high school. Breakups never lasted long in high school.

"... I think I'd probably have to ask Karla for permission before that particular lesson," he noted, smiling a little bit. "Or else invite her along."

Knowing Karla? Probably more the latter than the former.

Hercules got a little bit of a happy smile on his face. "Ah. I should have guessed that wouldn't last long once you all stop being pigheaded."

Hercules pulled no punches.

Warren took that statement with a grain of salt. Herc would be Herc, after all.

"She came to find me on Monday while I was packing," he explained. "We... maybe took until earlier today to actually talk it through, but that's not as long as it sounds, I swear. Time back home goes way more slowly than it does here."

Which was good. If his whole week had been like his past day had been, he would have totally just lost it.

"Packing," Hercules repeated, eyebrow raised. "Packing for the holidays?"

He wanted to get at the heart of matters.

Warren opened his mouth a little. And then froze that way.

... Oh. Right.

"No," he admitted, after a moment. "I... tried to call my Dad once I got a replacement for my phone. And I couldn't get in touch with him. Like... anywhere. So I was going to... you know. Just... go back and find him. Easy."

Totally easy.

"Just... by yourself. Running off into unknown danger," Hercules said.

He was pouting. Just a little. He downed a shot, just to get a different expression on his face.

Warren shrugged a little, looking down.

"I didn't know how bad it was. I mean, my dad's a businessman, Hercules. He could have been... busy with stocks or something, maybe."

Which had really, really not been the case.

"And what happened when you got there?" Hercules asked. "I take it it was not as simple as 'busy with stocks'."

Warren shook his head a little bit.

"Dad... runs a pharmaceutical company, where I'm from," he explained, softly. "And he developed a cure. For mutants."

Best to get the basics out of the way first.

"...I did not realize they were a sickness," Hercules said after a moment of pause.

Yeah, Warren wasn't going to be looking up for a while.

"The X-gene," he murmured. "It's... a corruption. Of healthy cellular activity. That's what Dad says we are."

A corruption. A fluke. An illness to be cured.

"I can only imagine what he was like to deal with when your powers manifested," Hercules said. "I am sorry."
