Chopped! [Community Center, Thursday evening]

Aug 11, 2011 13:31

"Welcome back!" Jack said. "Today's special ingredients do not include squirrel, alot or deer, if any of you were worried."

Well, they probably were now.

"You know how this works by now--20 minutes for your appetizer, 30 minutes for your entree, and 30 for your dessert course. Open your baskets and begin!"

Seifer wandered into this class after his 'date' (who knew the father of twin cheerleaders would be so anal about them getting back to the hotel on time?), and figured, what the hell.

The turbot was cut into thin slices, rolled up with the nori sheets, and then rolled in crushed pistachios and coconut.

Look people, Seifer could make sushi!

You have rainbow chard, papaya, granola, parsnips, and calamari.

Eww.

Calamari was good. Cooked or raw, which would explain why Seifer ate a chunk as he was slicing it up into strips. These strips were rolled in flour, then an egg and milk mixture, and finally breaded with the granola before they were fried in hot oil.

The chard, parsnips and papaya, stumped Seifer for a moment. Until he just sliced up the papaya and parsnips, tossed them in a bowl with the chard, and added a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette stuff he found in the pantry.

You have plain donuts, smoked gouda, white chocolate, and dried apricots!

Those almost go together. Huh.

Seifer pulled one out of the dorm room cafeteria raids for dessert. A donut was sliced in half, bagel style. He placed a slice of gouda on both of the open halves, putting white chocolate on one half and apricots on the other. He toasted them, and while everything was still gooey, he put the two halves together as a sandwich.

Seifer was probably going to lose points on presentation, but he at least had the food on plates.

"Okay, we've got turbot sushi, rolled in pistachios and coconut. Then granola fried calamari with a chard, parsnip and papaya salad topped with a raspberry balsamic vinaisomething. Dessert is a toasted white chocolate apricot gouda donut sandwich. Enjoy."
