Regardless of the situation which spurred its creation: was the Blaine Amendment a good idea? Would you have supported its addition to the Constitution? Why or why not? If a private school has excellent educational standards and covers all the necessary core classes, but also has religious classes included, should that private school still be exempted from federal money? What if the religious classes were to somehow become optional?

Is the Blaine Amendment tainted by its origin? Do you imagine Blaine succeeded in quelling anti-Catholic sentiment by enforcing the rule of law and closing a legal loophole, or would this have only made tensions worse? Should public schools which refuse to teach certain areas or subjects because of religious beliefs lose their funding, just as schools which actively teach other areas or subjects on religious beliefs?
