Jan 26, 2006 19:30

It was a fine night for walking, Granny thought. Crisp, cool air with a nice sprinkling of snow. The city had been a bit rowdy as of late, but that was to be expected of cities. Part of natural selection. Cities'd fill up with people if they didn't constantly kill each other off. 'Course, no sane person would mess with a witch, so it weren't ( Read more... )

Quark had bundled up a bit to dealt with the cold. It was almost a joke, having to deal with weather again. Not that he'd gone soft, spending his time on a space station... He just had become acclimated, that's all.

The woman in the pointy hat presented an interesting situation for him, so Quark did the one thing that came naturally.

"So, ma'am," he says as he approaches. "Is there much profit in habadashery around here, or did you get that magnificent headpiece from somewhere else?"

Granny didn't know what "habadashery" was but it sounded sleazy and she certainly didn't want to be associated with it. "This is one of one of Mr. Vernissage's finest hats," she said haughtily. "Made over in Slice. Willow reinforcement."

"Imported." Quark snaps his fingers. "I could't have really guessed, what with being new to the area." He sits down next to Granny and smiles. "Quark, Landlord and Entrepeneur."

"Granny Weatherwax," she said, nodding at him. "Witch. What brings you here, Mr. Quark?"

A squeal, a sudden stop from a Tachikoma Joyride and the think tank came to a stop. Lifting the hood, Togusa looked around. "We're here."

Pippi's head poked out next to Togusa's.

"That was soooooo fun!"

Walter popped his head up next to Pippi's and Togusa's and looked around. The ducks looked entirely unimpressed and there was a strange old woman sitting on one of the park benches.

After his recent lessons with Alfred, Walter was feeling even more polite than usual.

"Good evening, ma'am."

"Good evening," Granny said, with a nod. It was nice to see a lad with proper respect.

Alfred was beginning to discover that he quite enjoyed walking through the park at night, even in the rough weather. He nodded to the woman on the bench. "Good evening, my dear."

Granny stiffened. "I'm not your dear," she snapped.

Alfred smiled. "I'm terribly sorry, it was not my intention to offend you. Everyone knows it's bad luck to offend a witch, and I have no wish for bad luck." He stopped walking and bowed low. "I don't believe I've had the pleasure of your aquaintance. My name is Pennyworth. Alfred Pennyworth."

Granny looked slightly molified. "Granny Weatherwax," she said, by way of introduction.
