When Rick opened his door this morning, he took one good, long look around and closed it very quickly thereafter.

Then he pulled out his cell and hit the quickdial. "Hey, Alexis, honey, I might need to make a rain-check on that visit. Could you put your grams on?"

Kyle thought, considering how he was showing up and who with, it was only polite to knock before inviting himself into someone's home. "Toothless, keep a lookout." He still didn't know how much Toothless understood, but apparently it was enough for important things. Kyle belted on the door with his fist to make sure he was heard. Whatever was going on was not right. Atlas Gym was gone and as they'd pressed on towards Efferton, he'd silently hoped that Rose and her Russian guy hadn't really been in there at the time.

When Rick heard the knock on the door, he really wished that Beckett was here, if only because she was capable of being much scarier than whatever might be out there. "Who is it?" he called though the door.

Kyle had dismantled the wooden cabinet with an ax and was boarding up one of the wider windows. Some of the heavier furniture had been propped up on its tallest side and placed against windows. The front door and door to the back weren't barricaded but they were locked up tight and there was a dragon guarding one and a raccoon glaring at the other.

Kate and the lovingly modded Ariel's trek from the cabins to the manor had been... interesting, to say the least, involving a few creatures, a few rifts in reality, and a whole lot of running.

Kate was pale (or paler than usual, anyway), and the knife in her hand was covered in icky stuff. It was probably best not to ask what exactly it was.

She used her free hand to bang on the door, then looked over her shoulder at Ariel. "If there's no one here, I'm gonna have a shitfit."

A good portion of the ground floor was now fortified against attack. Kyle had no idea whether it would hold, and knew that they couldn't defend against suddenly disappearing, but he did know that you had to prepare for what you could and hope like hell the rest didn't end up catching up to you. He'd worked solidly throughout the day to put his makeshift plan into place and was taking a break to have a drink of water.
