It was that sort of day today, over at Cafe Fina.
You know the type.

She was overthinking this.
It was dinner, with Tseng. She was not going to be a spaz and ruin it. She was not going to hyperventilate and put her head between her knees. She was going to take a deep breath, pick a dress, and wear it. It was not going to be too long, too short, too formal, too casual, too young, or too old: it was going to be a dress, and she was going to wear it so she didn't show up naked.
Thinking about showing up naked: not helping her nerves.
Look! A dress. It was blue and light and fun. It was comfortable and she liked it. That meant she was going to wear the damn thing and stop having a nuclear meltdown over clothing.
And so Elena was waiting, now. Not naked. In a swingy blue dress. Hair clipped back from her face. Minimal make-up. She was not going to try too hard. She was going to have dinner.
She could do this. Right?

And there was Tseng, now. In, of course, his suit, oblivious as to how kind the island really was to him at times as a particularly helpful Spatula showed him to his seat.
"Elena," he greeted, in a tone that suggested that he was working very hard on not thinking about the Spatula. Really.

She hoped the dishes would not overhear and think that she meant they were bad at their jobs.
"It's odd how quickly you get used to the little ... oddities around here."
She no longer thought it was weird, being served by oversized dishes and salt-and-pepper shakers. This island had the weirdest effect on people ...
