Theodoric of York: Wednesday afternoon

Aug 19, 2009 07:44

Layla usually wasn't one for a beauty salon, manicures, pedicures, massages or the like but classes were now over for her and coming from her conversation with Karla the other day it seemed like the thing to do after a busy summer quarter ( Read more... )

"There's no shame in enjoying it, darling," Emma called from where she was getting her facial, sprawled out and practically purring from happiness. "A girl deserves to be spoiled sometimes, that's all there is to it."

"And not going to go for the fake tanner, hunh?" Dinah grinned, stretching out her toes. She gave the hair cutting station a considering look. "I dunno, maybe shorter. Shoulder length." She looked over at the make-up station. "Orrr..." A total make-over? Just to see what it looked like?

"Ew, no, fake tans always look, well, fake," Emma said, making a face.

And she didn't need to use her telepathy to see that Dinah was torn. "Just do both. Let the professionals work, darling. It's makeup. If you don't like it, it washes off."

"Well. True." And it's not like it'd be her fault, right? Which was always half her fear with too much make-up. She turned a little more red, but said, "Okay. After my nails. Full make-up. Why not."

"That's the spirit," Emma sighed, melting at the scalp massage she was currently getting as another person worked on her nails. "There's no need to wait for an event like a school dance or a date to feel pretty."

"Right." Dinah took a breath, sat down in front of the mirror, and said, "Okay. Re-make me."

Eyeliner, blush, lipstick, more eyeshadow, more powder, some re-shaping, and then-- "Hunh."

She looked... different. Her but not-her.

Karla had been glancing over the list of options, but stopped since none of the descriptions made sense anyway. "What are you getting Emma?" she asked, watching the facial. "And what's a 'bikini wax' and why would I want one?"

"Facial, hair cut and highlights, manicure and pedicure, and a makeover," Emma rattled off from her chair. "If I got a massage, I would be a puddle of Emma-goo, and you would never get me out of here again."

"And a wax is a method of removing unsightly hair," she continued. "Faster than shaving, and keeps your skin smoother longer. Unless you've got a special occasion coming up, you don't really need one." Traumatizing Karla at the spa would be bad.

"People use wax for that?" Karla asked, aghast. She'd used enough candles in her life to realize how much it hurt. "Who does that?!"She shuddered at the thought and deliberately asked about other things. "What's a facial? And what kind of makeover? You're already very pretty. Last time I checked, you were leading the hotness poll."

My player says I'm totally not allowed to know about the poll, because it would make me totally insufferable.

"Facial is what I am getting now," she continued, letting Karla change the topic. Emma had never had a wax, so it wasn't like she could answer many questions about it or anything. "It cleans, soothes, and nourishes the skin. They're very relaxing."

"As for the makeover, I'm just letting someone else do my makeup, pick colors, that sort of thing. Sometimes it's fun to try something new." Emma tilted her head enough to grin at Karla. "Sometimes it's fun just to change the type of pretty."

"Maybe I should try it," she mused. "I don't really have a style or anything." Her makeup was a hodge-podge of things grabbed from T&C for slumer parties. And she hadn't the least idea how to apply it anyway. "Though will it be worth it if I don't wear facep--makeup anyway?"

Hey, she brushed her hair (most) mornings. What else did she need to do to look presentable?

"Amen to that," Elena answered. "If only they served mimosas here, we'd be set."

"Do they serve mimosas?" That would be Emma perking up, yes. "They should. I want a mimosa!"

"Maybe we should send someone down to Caritas to get a round," Elena mused. "Except I doubt they'd let us take those tall champagne flutes out of the bar."

Emma sighed dramatically and rolled her eyes. "Smoothies, then. I'm sure they have those here, since fruit blends are healthy and all of that nonsense."

"Then it's just a matter of spiking them," Elena said, patting down her pockets. She had to have a flask here somewhere, didn't she?
