...if it wasn't enough that Tony had left for the rest of the summer, leaving the production stage manager-less, the island had decided that today, Geoffrey would be sporting a new fur coat in the middle of July

Coffee, tea, muffins, etc. Thankfully, Liir stuck around long enough to help set up a few other things, so the chairs are set up and the stage is clear.

Karla was too busy grabbing a few muffins and fixing her coffee to notice that in Geoffery's place there was a grumpy-looking beaver. And when she did, her first thought was I wonder if he still has a razor under his tongue?
She also decided she didn't actually want to find out the answer to that.

Karla turned, intending to hug him, then remembered his reaction at the picnic. She caught herself, awkwardly rocking back and forth on her feet for a second until balance kicked in, but she never lost the smile she had for him. "Thanks!" she said. "And I am minding the mammal, just a bit. I'm debating if it still has the razor, and, if so, how I could find out without getting cut, bit, or scratched."

Zack got in, ready to help move props or paint things, or whatever it was that he was supposed to do as the generic backstage guy.
... Once he got to the snack table, however, and he saw the note?

The beaver made a noise that almost sounded like a grunt and bobbed his head as if to nod. Yes, he was Geoffrey. Then there was a shake of the head. No, he was... unhappy but could not be helped by anything Dinah could provide, no.
"Sorry. I'm just gonna go back, and, uh." Dinah pointed over her shoulder, shaking her head in fascination. "Right. Just help out and all." She briefly considered telling Geoffrey that Tony was doing fine in Vancouver, but then decided that would be salt on razor-blade wounds, and just nodded. "You look nice?" she offered, then facepalmed. "Uh. Going now."
