She nodded once and came in again, fist driving straight in at his belly, more slowly a ordered. Exactly the same approach because she didn't know any others.

That was better, though. Not hard to deflect -- and Tyler moved his arm slowly so she could see the block -- but better. "Again," he said. "We'll keep going until you actually land a blow that I think matters."

Triela's eyes narrowed, but she nodded shortly before taking another swing. This time the punch at his stomach was a feint as she shifted to lunge upward, aiming for his chin. It probably would have been more effective if she didn't telegraph things quite so obviously.

"Better," Tyler said aloud. He let the blow to his chin land, the pain radiating up through his jaw. He had to talk carefully. "You're leaving your ribcage open when you do that." His knee came up in a pulled kick to demonstrate.

The kick didn't hurt, but it was enough to throw Triela off and spoil her balance. She grabbed at his leg reflexively, but she was slow.

He swung his leg forward to try to shake her off. "You're getting better. Keep your guard up more."

"It doesn't hurt when you hit me," Triela countered as she held on tight and punched at his ribs with her free hand.

Apparently she'd missed that whole 'getting knocked off balance' bit.

"Because you're" -- Tyler twisted, trying to jab at her stomach -- "mostly a robot. Congratulations. You still aren't winning."

She let go of his leg and tried to get her arm into place in time to block, but she wasn't fast enough. "I will," she grunted.

But probably not today. Or any other day too soon.

"When?" Tyler queried, bringing his left up for an uppercut to her jaw. "You do know you're supposed to try to punch, right?"

That was enough to goad her into three rapid, if sloppy, punches. Ribs, face, ribs again.

Triela might have had a few anger management issues.

"Better. Better," Tyler told her, deflecting the last rib blow. "Spend some time in the gym at school this week and we'll try again next week."

He didn't see the point of trying to take her down again.

Triela's guard dropped completely as she stepped back. "So are we done?"

"For good? No. For tonight? Yeah." Tyler rubbed his jaw a little. "Feel like you learned anything?"

Triela frowned, actually considering the question carefully.

"Maybe." He'd caught her first punch when she'd repeated it. And he hadn't caught the feint. Maybe.
