Pick a partner and hit the floor. Again and again and again.

Gawain stalked over to the mat with a stalk that said bring it, then bounced on his toes, eyes bright as he examined the possible competition.

When Rede had finished the the girl he'd been sparring with, even as sore and tired as he was, he wasn't about to call it quits. It was when he was sore and tired that being able to keep going counted the most, his Reno from back home always insisted.

And that was why he was making his way over to the new boy on the mats, looking him up and down thoughtfully.

"Hi."

"Hello." Gawain studied him too, admiring the hair in passing, then gave him a definitive little nod. "Gawain Pendragon. Good fight with the girl there." He grinned, a combative gleam starting in his eyes. "Care for another go?"

He was Reno's boy. There was no way the guy was going to let him do his hair like his other father.

... He'd have none, if that was the case.

"I wouldn't mind," Rede decided, nodding slightly. "Do you fight often?"

"Fairly often," Gawain said, nodding. "Lessons at a dojo at home." Where the fights were tightly supervised, but still. "And with my father and aunt." Which was much, much tougher. "Been doing it a while." The tough-guy persona melted into a wide grin. "It's cooooool. First fall, or first blood, or what? Gotta have rules."

"First... blood?" Reno and Rude did that kind of fight at home, but they'd never let him try. He was up for the challenge, if this boy was. "Let's try that."

It felt very much like something a Turk might say, after all.

"Rock!" Gawain hardly ever got to do that, but he loved pushing the limits. But first, he straightened, then very solemnly bowed to Rede. "That's to show respect. 'Cause just 'cause we're fighting now, we might be on the same side later," he recited.

Then got into a fighting stance, bouncing up and down. Fight fight fight!

Reno considered that notion, and then he bowed as well. He liked that idea. He kind of liked this kid, too. And so he bowed back.

He wasn't quite as bouncy, of course... But he was going to rush toward Gawain with a fist aimed for his guts. Reno kept telling him, if you hit them in the guts good enough, you probably won't have to hit them again.

Rede was fast! Too fast for Gawain to just dodge, so he reached out with one hand to grab the fist powering toward him-- whoa! -- and kicked out toward his knees on the other side -- woo!

Rede barely managed to move his leg forward in time to take the worst of the kick across his shin, but he figured that was preferable to having his knees kicked in, so he wasn't going to complain. If the boy was holding on to the one fist, he'd just swing at him with his other one.

Having two fists was handy like that!

It was! Gawain had his arm up to block that, and he grunted as it connected, because oowwwww. Still fighting fair, though, and he pulled the other boy forward by the fist in the move his aunt taught him, trying to throw him over his knee.

Not-fighting-fair came later, 'cause you had to save it up!
