Unfortunately, as he made his way through town, a shrieking beast had spotted him moving along the back of a building and started chasing him down. Sure, John had thrown rocks, his shoes, and the odd stray can he'd managed to pick up as he ran, but none of it was enough to turn the harpy back. As he neared the onsen, she swooped low, catching a talon on the collar of his shirt, drawing a string of curses and some blood from John.
Lucky for him, the water was warm and the steam confused the beast. He sprang into the water fully clothed, hand clutching his nose shut. Hopefully the evil bird-woman would be gone before he ran out of air.
