There was a poster tacked up on the door to the main gym, with the following text written in alternating handwriting, as if the marker had been shared between two people:

"It's entirely selfish, I assure you," Ghanima laughed. "There is only so much training I can do alone or with the same partners. Variety, however, pushes us forward."
Re: Talk to the OrganizersraspberryturkMarch 8 2009, 17:54:06 UTC
"I am all for variety, zoto," Reno said, his voice dropping to a nearly grave tone. "I mean, no offence or nothin', but the same old all the time is startin' to give me twitches."
A beat.
"I keep hopin' that Tseng'll call me with work, so I got an excuse to go to Gaia to take down monsters, or stupid people doin' stupid shit, or anything. This might help or somethin', yo."
Re: Talk to the OrganizersraspberryturkMarch 8 2009, 18:26:10 UTC
Reno just grinned and took that in stride.
"An extra hour a day? I'm cool with that, yo." It wasn't tough love if they were looking forward to doing that sort of thing, was it? "Can there be extra discs? Pleeease?"
Seriously. Twitchy enough that he was resorting to attempting half-assed puppy-eyes.

Before she left, Dinah detoured over to talk to Ghanima. "Professor Atreides? This is awesome. And, um. When you've got time to talk, I sort of have a question. Or a problem. No, a question."
Dinah's uncertainty probably wasn't helped by the throbbing of her head.
Re: Talk to the OrganizersatreideslionessMarch 9 2009, 01:54:46 UTC
One look at Dinah, and Ghanima was gently trying to steer the younger girl away from the crowd and to somewhere a bit quieter.
"I always have time, unless I'm the one in the middle of a match," she quipped. "Mr. Durden can shepherd the flock for a moment on his own. What can I do for you?"

Dinah leaned against the wall, and lowered her voice a little. "The woman who came over to check on me, after I fought Mr. Durden. I sort of know her from home. Well, another her? And I got a telepathic flash from her." She frowned, then winced, rubbing her cheek as the bruise on her jaw pulled. "I don't... I guess I felt like I should just tell someone, because the one I know back home is really, really dangerous. And crazy."*

"Everyone at Fandom is at least a little insane," Ghanima replied slowly, eyes scanning the room. "That's one of my pet theories, at least."
She took a moment to reinforce her own mental shielding before reaching out to touch Dinah's cheek to get a better look at the bruise that was forming. The last thing the girl needed was a head full of Ghanima's Other Memory. "Tell me the truth, Dinah. Do you think this woman is a threat to you or the other students? Not her counterpart, but her. For we all deserve to be judged on our own merits, regardless of the shadows that dance in our minds."

Professor Atreides was constantly doing that, asking her what she thought, not just wanting information and then making up her mind about it. One more reminder that she was going to be an adult here, or try to.
She tilted her head when Ghanima reached for her face, wincing a little but preoccupied by her own thoughts, and slowly said, "I don't think so. Not really. She's messed up, but not malicious, not like the one I knew. Except if her boyfriend comes back, I don't think she can be trusted then. She's really hung up on him, and it seemed like the version she knew was as bad as the one I've heard of." Dinah raised her eyes to Professor Atreides, and said, "He killed a lot of people. A lot. For giggles."
Re: Talk to the Organizers - NFBatreideslionessMarch 9 2009, 03:10:14 UTC
"Then perhaps this is just the place she needs to be," Ghanima reflected quietly. "A place where she can be accepted for who she is, without him, and a place she can grow beyond that dependence."
"She would not be the first person to be manipulated by a loved one, or even the last. I will not suspect her on the basis of that alone, but it cannot hurt to keep our ears and eyes open for this 'boyfriend' of hers," she said. "Bad taste in men isn't a crime, unless you count it as a crime of the heart."
Re: Talk to the Organizers - NFBblondecanaryMarch 9 2009, 03:16:24 UTC
Dinah snorted a little at that, then winced again, nodding. What Professor Atreides had said about judging Dr. Quinzel on who she was, not who Dinah thought she was, also struck a chord for a lot of reasons. She took a breath, thinking hard.
"She wants to be good. That was, like, every other thought she had, once she knew I recognized her." Dinah sighed slowly. "And her own police let her go. Got her therapy, gave her a second chance." She rubbed at her temple, staring at Ghanima. "It's just scary. The other her, the other Harleen Quinzelle-- she hurt both my sisters. They turned her in to the police, they wouldn't want me to do anything to her. It's just... close to home."

"This was your idea? You an' Prof. Durden? You guys are brilliant," he decided. "Bloody brilliant, yo!"
He wasn't sucking up. He was squeeing. A lot.

Ghanima believed in tough love when it came to her students. Really.

Okay. So Reno still had to work on meditating. He could do that!
It would require more caffeine in the mornings. Or less. Or maybe just getting normal amounts of sleep. Or something. Yeah!
"I gotta work on that. Meditating, I mean. Sittin' still that long is tricky, yo."
