The Park, Saturday evening

Oct 11, 2008 18:56

Dick woke up on a park bench. He wasn't sure how he got here, but he did know one thing definitively... "It was all just a dream," he said. But he said it quietly so that nobody might hear it. In fact, at the moment it seemed as if his entire purpose was to be in the background if anyone with an actual speaking part wandered by ( Read more... )

Parker didn't notice Dick as she started badgering paid minions to set up:

* A huge bonfire
* A huge buffet
* A pen for the chickens to be sacrificed.

"Pour the flour into the circles! Put the coffee out for the loas! God, do I have to do everything? MUSH, MINIONS! MUSH!"

While Parker did that, Dick started reading the business section. Nothing but bad news there. He shook his head, but nobody would see that because of the paper covering his face.

"I pay good money to you losers to set up my sacrificial altar! I expect it done right!" Parker ranted, wandering in front of Dick without looking down at him. She picked up a dis-used section of his paper to whap at one of her minions with it. "Flour first! Coffee second! Rum third! Legaba Eshue and Oya, how did I find such stupid help?"

She sighed and let the newspaper flutter back onto the bench.

Z was wandering through the park, musing to herself about her lost love, Jack, and how she would get him back now that she was the most powerful voodoo priestess in all of Fandom, when she heard--another voodoo priestess!

How could this be? "How can this be?!"

The Doctor dived over the park bench and took cover behind it. It wasn't every day that you saw a man in a tuxedo with a longbow and quiver of arrows. "They've found me," he said to no one in particular. Maybe the audience. "I don't know how, but they've found me. I won't let them take me alive. I'm coming, Rose!"

There didn't appear to be anyone actually chasing him.

Dick was reading the sport's page. The Phillies were sure taking it to the Dodgers. Dick was sure that Manny wouldn't be able to save LA's postseason at this point.

The Doctor paused in his taking of cover for a moment to peer over Dick's shoulder to take a look at the scores. Married life was going to be different, if he could actually find the bride-to-be, but he wasn't going to give up his newly found obsession with baseball. She could take a lot of things, but she couldn't take that away from him.

The moment passed, and he went back to being stealthy.

Parker paused in her monologuing to stare at the Doctor, hiding the knife behind her back. "Are you here for the party? Welcome! Get some rum!"

Summer was a bit on edge. She hated all the secrets and lies she was keeping and just wanted to talk to someone about it. That's why she was currently walking through the park with her close friend Isabel, someone she thought she could confide in.

"Isabel, I can trust you right?" she asked cautiously.

"Oh absolutely Summer," Isabel said sincerely. "You're like a sister to me, you know that."

Having no part in the conversation, Dick was reading the want ads. There was apparently a lot of work for extras in the general area.

Summer sighed dramatically. "There are things about me you don't know."

Seely lay down on a nearby park bench, shivering despite his layers of dirty, ragged clothes. He ran a hand over his stubbled chin, the hollows under his eyes betraying too many nights of not enough sleep, sleep haunted by night terrors, flashback after flashback, being overwhelmed by his memories.

Dick would have given Seely some of his newspaper to use as a blanket, but he was too busy reading some insightful editorials to notice that there was somebody trying to sleep.

Parker began trying to sneak up on the homeless guy, in order to sacrifice him.

Look, no one else showed up for her ceremony yet, okay? Her husband was late to his own funeral, for crying out loud.

Being an ex-special forces soldier suffering from an extreme case of PTSD mean Seely had an excessive startle reflex. Jerking awake from yet another nightmare of going over the wall, he eyed Parker warily.
