Doogie was in a somber mood as he made the rounds through the cot area and checked on the growing number of patients. The idea that someone could die from this sickness had occurred to him, but he wasn't expecting it to happen to one of the students. Needless to say, he was determined to not lose anyone else.

He didn't want to push, but he had to. "It could be important. No one knows anything about this sickness except that it's magical in origin. If you know of something like this that has happened before, it could be very important."

"Krytos wasn't magical," Gavin said. "So, it's really not important. It's the outbreak and the speed that makes me think of it."

"Okay," he said quietly. "I'm sorry, but I needed to make sure. It's just--" Karal shook his head and pulled a smile from somewhere. "Your help would be very good to have."

"No problem," Gavin said, clapping a hand on Karal's shoulder before heading off to see what he could do.

At one point during the evening, Katara came up to Karal tentatively. "Karal?"

Karal smiled a welcome. "Katara, hello. You wouldn't by any chance have seen Altra? I seem to have misplaced him." Not that you could actually misplace a Firecat.

Katara nodded. "He came to find me earlier and was with me for a while," she said quietly.

"As long as he is somewhere." He sighed and shook his head, then really looked at her, frowning as he did so. "Are you all right?"

She nodded, trying to convince both of them. "I - Altra -" Katara looked up. "You know Bart? The boy Altra stayed with last night?"

He was getting a bad feeling. "Only by meeting him last night," he replied slowly. "Katara?"

"I couldn't help him anymore," she said looking back down. "He died earlier this afternoon."
