After being bullied by a bunch of squirrels and feeling inadequate because of knights and princes in Tortall, Kawalsky had a new resolve. He was getting back into good shape. He was going to lay off the baked goods (right after breakfast at JGOB) and then it was back to training. There were no quick fixes when it came to getting fit and so Kawalsky was out for a morning run along the beach.
Then he tripped and wasn't running anymore because he had faceplanted in the sand.
Coughing and spitting out sand, Charlie pushed himself up and turned on all fours to see what he'd tripped over.
It was a bottle. It looked like an oversized perfume bottle. Frowning, Kawalsky sighed and picked it up. "Stupid bottle."
Because the bottle was totally listening to his disgruntled insult. He stared at the bottle and was about to throw it into the ocean when something stopped him. Maybe it was just the sun reflecting off it at that angle, or maybe it had something to do with the plot bunny that just hopped by unnoticed. Whatever it was, its influence was felt when Kawalsky didn't throw the bottle away, but instead rubbed at the bottle with the sleeve of his hoodie to clean it.
He hadn't counted on a woman appearing suddenly in front of him.
Jeannie blinked at the sudden light and stretched. "Oh, thank
goodness. Normally I do not mind sea travel, but this was getting
ridiculous!" Then she saw Kawalsky. "Oooh Master!"
Kawalsky stared. Then he stared some more. "Hi." What more could you say to that?
"Hello! I am Jeannie. You rubbed my bottle, yes?"
"No I didn't!" Kawalsky protested."No rubbing of any bottles. Especially if my girlfriend asks. You can't go around saying a guy rubbed your bottle. Someone'll take it the wrong way."
"But you have the bottle there, so you must be my new Master! I am Jeannie. I am a genie."
Kawalsky stared some more. "A genie." Jeannie nodded. "As in I'll grant your wishes?"
"Whatever you wish, Master, it is yours. All you must do is ask! I will give it to you."
"Wait, wait, wait. You're a genie and you're saying you'll give me anything I wish for?"
"That is correct, Master," Jeannie said happily.
Kawalsky was still staring, but this time he was grinning. He looked up at the castle. "Thank you, Fandom. Best Christmas gift ever." He turned his attention back to Jeannie. "Okay, first of all, you can't call me Master. People will think it's weird and it's too cold for a jello wrestling match between you and Alanna." Yeah, that was total wishful thinking on Kawalsky's part, but sometimes he was a deluded guy.
"But you are my Master!" Jeannie protested with a pout. "What else can I call you but Master?"
"Whatever you want, just don't call me Master. My name's Charlie Kawalsky."
"But I cannot call you by your name, Master. It would not be right." She shook her head vehemently.
"Then call me something else! Major K! CK, whatever."
Jeannie brightened. "You will call me Jeannie and I will call you Major!"
That sounded oddly familiar, but Kawalsky couldn't figure out why. "No!"
"Master or Major, Major. I must call you one until we know each other better."
He was thinking more about his wishes than what he was called, so he waved her off. "You know what? Fine, call me whatever. Now about these wishes..."
"Whatever you desire, Major." Jeannie smiled at him brightly.
Kawalsky tapped his fingertips against his chin, trying to think of what he could wish for. His knowledge of genies was based on that Disney movie. Rub the lamp, get three wishes. As far as he knew, he had three wishes and he had to make them count.
Thoughts of Tortall fresh in his mind from his visit and his discussion with Aly, and new thoughts about that Disney movie combined to give him his first wish.
"I wish I was a prince."
Jeannie folded her arms and blinked and nodded.
Kawalsky waited...and waited. He didn't look any different. "I don't look any different."
"But you are a prince," Jeannie assured him. "You have a title and money and will inherit a country one day."
"So I'm really a prince? Where's my crown?"
Jeannie blinked again and a crown appeared on Kawalsky's head.
He pulled it off and grinned. "That's more like it. I've gotta tell Cam about this. Can you go back in the bottle?"
"Of course, Major!" She disappeared back into the bottle.
With bottle in one hand and crown in the other, he ran back towards the school. This was going to be awesome. He was sure of it.
