You are so wrong that there aren't words to describe it. The LAST thing the franchise needs, after Berman and the disasters of all the TNG movies, is for that dick from the Family Guy to come make a movie full of Libertarian fart jokes.
People who shit talk Seth MacFarlane make me laugh, because they seem to be under the impression that all he's capable of churning out, in any capacity, is current-era Family Guy.
Are you all morons? Seth MacFarlane has had barely anything to do with writing for FG in years. He wants FG to end, but Fox won't let him because it makes money. In fact, from what I've been able to discern, he doesn't have much to do with writing on any of his shows anymore, because believe it or not, he's a human man who's responsible for three separate shows (in addition to all of the other stuff he does, like voiceover work for his own shows and other shows, movie work, developing new shows... oh, and he recorded an entire album).
All that stuff from Family Guy that people hate? Isn't Seth MacFarlane. The stuff that made Family Guy a huge success? That was.
You know what? While you're completely wrong about what he'd try to make I'd actually watch the version you just described. Star Trek with Libertarian fart jokes would be so trolicious you'd have to see it.
I'm thankful this will almost certainly never happen. He'd probably combust if he had to make a show without high-handed social commentary and cheap humor.
I feel this way about Joss Whedon, OP. Such a nerd. And I'm such a fan. But then again I know deep down that as much as I love Joss and I love Trek, he's just too dark for the franchise. It's like salsa and chocolate ice cream: they are both good, but not necessarily together.
If Seth McFarlain wrote Trek fanfiction, though I'd be all over that. Especially it were TOS/IX verse, since some of the TOS episodes were almost as cracky as Family Guy anyway.
Yeah, that second line was my point. He just doesn't have the "mood" for Star Trek at all...at least not for the TOS/IX verse. I could have seen him directing an episode of DS9, maybe. Firefly reminded me of DS9 in alot of ways.I don't know about the Avengers movie, but I'm not a big fan of his comics either to be honest.
Yeah, I'm going to have to go with no on this one. Sometimes "knowing your stuff" doesn't always yield the best results, and I really don't see him being able to handle characters who don't make constant fart jokes.

Idiot.

So, if he were given the chance, I'd see it. Still holding reservations, but I'd see it.

I gave him a chance with my comics. That was a disaster. And while I like his scifi, it's not the right scifi for star trek.
