Saturday Evening, Third Floor Common Room

Nov 04, 2006 20:53

"Stupid power," Dawn grumbled, lighting the candle on the table near her, then got up to turn off the television and overhead light. The power (at least in the common room) had been intermittently annoying all day, and it was back in the annoying period.

So she was now reading by candlelight and pretending she was Abe Lincoln.

"I love having night vision," Schrodinger said from a couch he hadn't been in before.

Conner didn't have a candle, but he did have one of those compact LED flashlights that ran on lithium batteries (red LEDs, natch). It probably looked a little creepy when the red circle of light preceded him into the common room.

"Dude, this sucks."

It was dark, so Dawn didn't notice Conner's hair, or his startling resemblance to a certain blond vampire. "It's better now that people are bringing stuff in so we can see."

"Yeah, but it's seriously putting a cramp in my weekend entertainment. My laptop's batteries gave out hours ago," Conner grumbled. He did look around the room, though, and realized that it was getting a little better now that people were bringing their own illumination. "Y'know, you could probably get some kind of inspirational moral of the story out of this, to tell at graduations or whatever."

"Always make sure you have a flashlight?" Dawn asked.

Peter had pulled a small tin camping lantern out of the bottom of his pack and made his way to the Common Room.

"We need to all play hide and go seek or something."

"Oooh, or charades!" Dawn bounced a little.

"Charades would be fun!" Peter agreed. "Perhaps if we get enough candles and torches in here we could actually see to do it."

It took Dawn a second to figure out that Peter didn't mean to get a mob together. "Or we could do it in the dark and try to guess what people are doing."

She blushed. "That sounded less dirty in my head."

Shining a flashlight, Seely wandered into the common room. "What's up with the power?"

"It's gone," Buffy said helpfully.

"Buffy," Seely grinned. "I kind of gathered that, but why?"

"Cally thinks it's the first step in a bat-fish invasion." Buffy shrugged. She could take down some bat-fish, she was sure. "I dunno."

Rory bustled in with a votive candle in her hands and a book of matches in her pocket. "Do you know how frelling hard it is to read by candlelight?"

"I do!" Dawn said, waving her book at Rory.

"Have you mastered it?" Rory asked, clearly frustrated.

"Nope," she shook her head, "but I had a pretty decent Lincoln impression going."
