Even after sleeping on it, Anders didn't feel much better about what had happened in Edge. They'd put so much work into the water filtration system -- only to see it wrecked in what was most likely a matter of hours. Nathan's afternoon, evening and night had been spent in the preserve so he was just now making it back to the dorms.

But, he was going to make an immediate detour to both remain outside a little longer and to see Anders since he had something to share with him and just seeing him was motivation enough.

"Or out late," he joked, stepping up onto the deck. "I slept in the preserve so I'm just coming back. Couldn't stay out there any longer without food, you know."

"You aren't foraging for berries and tree bark?" Anders joked in return, then gestured at his muffin. "You can have some of mine, if you like. Or there's a box of them upstairs."

"Oi, Lachlan, mind the shoes," Edward called - largely because he'd just stepped outside and now there was a kitten on his feet. He was smiling, though, as was his usual habit.

"Kill his shoes, Lachlan," Anders advised teasingly, then smiled over at Edward. "Hello there. You're looking well."

Lachlan batted at Edward's shoelaces for a moment more.

Edward grinned, dropping to his knees to pat the little cat on the head. "It's a fine day, or at least it seems to be so far," he said. "How's your day turning out?"

"No complaints so far," Anders told him. "And I don't have anything in particular to do today, so there's every reason to think things will stay that way."

Lachlan sniffed Edward suspiciously for a moment before submitting to the petting.
