The Roof [Monday afternoon]

May 12, 2014 14:54

Four had spent the last week exploring the island, learning the ways out, the places that were easiest to defend, the places that served food (he'd have to talk to the faction leaders about getting his monthly points for food and clothing converted into something he could use here), the places that sold clothing, and most importantly the shooting ( Read more... )

Contrary to what some might have thought, Edward was not yet stupid enough to try scaling the dorms entirely. But it had occurred to him that the view from the dorm roof would be excellent, and perhaps give him a chance to synchronize spot areas he had not previously noticed.

So after he came in via the stairs he hopped up on the divider to get a better look--

"Oh, hello, mate," he called. "Didn't notice you, sorry."

"Not a problem," Four said, voice sounding only a little bit tight. "I wasn't planning on staying up here that long anyway. I just wanted to see the view."

"It's nice, aye," Edward said, casting another glance across the town before walking towards Four - over the divider, mind you.

Four swallowed hard and ran his hand through his shortly cropped dark hair to pretend indifference. "It is," he lied. Why would people want to be up here for fun?

He was doing it as a more than slightly masochistic exercise.

Despite the warmth, Nathan still wasn't ready to walk around with his tattoos in plain view. He just didn't trust anyone enough to do that so he was still bundled in a scarf, a long sleeved shirt and fingerless gloves.

He had, at least, stopped wearing hoodies for now but everything was still covered including his eyes but sunglasses were practical for this weather anyway.

Nathan hadn't yet visited the roof even after being told they were allowed up there and he was interested to see what it felt like in comparison to the Preserve. Sketch book under one arm, he stopped behind the guy in the door.

"Something wrong?" The other guy seemed pretty attached to the door, after all.

"Nah," Four lied, shaking his head. "Just hadn't been up here before. Wasn't sure if it would be really windy."

You're not that high off the ground, Four.

Nathan slipped onto the roof and instantly felt better. Being inside during the day wasn't so bad but he still preferred being outside if he could help it. He breathed in and sighed at the buzzing in his head leaving him for the moment.

"Doesn't feel that bad," he remarked, glancing over at Four. "I don't think we're high enough for wind to really be a factor. It's not a mountain."

"We don't have mountains where I'm from," Four replied.

They did have 99 story buildings, but unlike his fellow Dauntless, Four was not an idiot about to jump off of that for fun.

Rapunzel was carrying her sketchpad when she came up to the roof this morning, and while the whole 'letting her hair trail behind her' thing worked fine most days, it didn't at the moment.

"Ouch!" She set down her sketchpad on the ground as she pulled her hair up the stairs and through the door she was now propping open with her foot, rolling her eyes as she piled her hair by her feet. "Oh, hi! Four, right? Is it okay if I sit up here with you?"

You know, once she had her little hair-stuck-in-the-stairwell situation under control. Rapunzel problems, man.

"Very," Four said, giving her a little smile. "...do you need a hand with all of that?"

Some Abnegation instincts died hard.

"I think I've got it." Rapunzel gave her hair a good yank, and it came untangled from where it'd been caught, sending her reeling back. She caught her balance quickly, though, and flashed him an embarrassed smile. "Yikes. I have got to figure out a better system for those stairs." Like maybe not taking them anymore. "I was gonna sketch, if I won't be interrupting anything."

"You won't be," Four said. "I wasn't planning on staying up here very long."

Beat.

"It's not you, I promise."

Sia had brought Vitor up here to try and run off some energy, because she didn't feel like chasing him around the lawn. At least here he was contained.

"Am I interrupting?" she checked, like Vitor wasn't barking a hello anyway.

"Oh, goodness, what a cutie! Hello!" Rapunzel cooed pretty much immediately upon seeing Vitor.

She glanced at Sia with a small, slightly-shy smile. "Is he okay with petting?" She knew you were supposed to check, first, even if this was the first dog she'd ever seen this close.

"He's fine with it," Sia told her. "In fact you're already his new best friend."

And of course Vitor's tail was wagging happily and he was already trying to nuzzle Rapunzel's hand for pets. Demanding puppy.

"Who's a good boy? You are!" It was nice to know that the instant-best-friend thing went both ways, right? Rapunzel was more than happy to give the little guy alllllll the pets he wanted.

"I'm Rapunzel, by the way," she added, sparing a hand to wave at Sia. "Sorry. I would've said hi to you even if you hadn't brought a puppy up here, I promise."
