The kitchen in the common room wasn't that different from the kitchen in Celia's cottage. Everything was a little more modern and clean but other than that, Nathan recognized almost everything. He'd been picking up on the time differences that people here seemed to be experiencing. Nathan didn't have the intelligence to really parse it but he could accept it for the moment.

"Is this a boys only party?" she asked, surveying the room and smiling. "Or can I come in too?"

"You can come in," he said quietly, nodding. His attention wandered back to the soup to make sure everything was cooking correctly. "I think I'm making enough for the entire floor, if you're hungry."

"I could eat," she said cheerfully. "Though I'm actually from the fifth floor. I'm sneaky like that."
Not really, no.
"I'm Karina Lyle, by the way. And you're... new, right?"

"Yeah," he said, nodding. The soup started simmering so he let it be for a moment before glancing over at her though he kept his eyes down. "I'm Nathan. I live on this floor."
If that wasn't already evident and all.

"Well," he said appreciatively, taking a deep sniff of the air, "that's much better-smelling than my roommate's paints. Is it for sharing?"

One could, of course, drink a potion for an upset stomach, but it was better not to have the upset stomach to begin with.
"And thank you," he added, claiming a bowl.

He could cook meat but it hadn't always been that appetizing. "And I tended to use the open flame to keep warm. Heavy snow isn't great for cooking."
