Dorm Lawn, Tuesday into Wednesday Night

Okay, so the weather on Fandom was slightly less bone-tinglingly cold than the mainland, but that was really all there was to be said for it. One thing it wasn't, for instance, was ideal weather for anyone to stand around in for prolonged periods of time.

Which was why the Powers That Be had decided it was the exact ideal time to have a fire drill ( Read more... )

As if Karina had thought to grab a coat. As if.

No, she was out there in a t-shirt and panties and nothing else, not even shoes. She didn't look cold so much as cranky and was glowering at the dorms.

Ugh. Couldn't she go back to sleep? She was torn between hoping there was actually a fire, so that this had a point, and hoping it was just a drill because drills were, you know, less dangerous.

Dear goodness, Karina, what were you wearing?

That was the first thought through Elsa's head as she looked Karina's way, followed, a moment later, by how she didn't seem to be reacting to the cold the way that everyone else was. There was no shivering, no rubbing her hands together or hopping around or huddling under something warm.

It was probably nothing. Anger was a powerful motivator to keep from noticing one's surroundings, right? But Elsa, huddled under her shawl for cover more than warmth and just as barefoot otherwise, couldn't just let that sit.

"Karina," she murmured, walking up to her and chewing her lip a little, "aren't you cold?"

What was wrong with what she was wearing? She'd been sleeping, damn it!

Karina blinked, looking over at Elsa and then registering the question. Oh. Oh.

"…Yes," she said unconvincingly, after a pause that went on rather too long, and looking a bit like a deer in the headlights.

Crap. That was the worst lie she'd told in years.

"Who wouldn't be?"

[NFB on anything to do with powers/abilities, please]

It was a pretty difficult expression to miss, wasn't it? And Elsa, while a little starved for human contact while growing up, certainly knew what panic looked like.

"I... I certainly can't think of anyone," she noted. "I mean, it's... cold out?"

It was, right?

"So, you'd expect everybody would be shivering or huddling under something warm, or..." What did people do when they were cold? She looked around, and took a few moments too long to come up with something else, herself. "... or moving around a lot to keep... from... touching too much snow?"

That wasn't strictly why they were moving around like that, Elsa.

Remembering her last fire drill, Yeul had taken the time to put shoes on and grab a blanket. Not so much for her, which was probably a disappointment to anyone who thought she'd develop survival instincts, but for anyone who didn't remember to bring one.

She was cold, of course, but that didn't really matter to Yeul as she looked around quietly, face calm, and waited for the drill to end.

Rilla was snuggled up warmly in a coat, gloves, and hat, and so was Jims.

He was not at all pleased about having his sleep interrupted and was wailing loudly, which, let's be honest here, most of the rest of you wanted to be doing as well, right?

Rilla was carrying him and trying to get him to calm down to no avail so far.

"You... have a kid. You have a kid. In the dorm. I did not expect that."

There were hundreds of more tactful ways to bring it up. Joker wasn't really the sort to go looking for them.

"...He's cute, though."

"Thank you," Rilla said, smiling proudly. "He's two and a half."

Joker leaned forward and made silly faces at the kid. "Awww, what's your name, little guy?" he asked.

In between faces, he gave Rilla a concerned look. "Oh, man, didn't you say his dad was off at war? That's gotta suck."

Coat? It was lucky he remembered to put on shoes to go with his boxers.

Now Cade was hopping up and down and cursing a blue streak because he was a cold, cold, idiot.

Forgive Eleanor for staring. It was only partly the nudity. Really.

"Goodness, aren't you cold?!" she asked.

Cade flexed his muscles a bit because he was That Guy, then shrugged. "A little."

A LOT.

Right. That was a lot of muscles. Obviously, males had those muscles, but, you know. Knowing that and seeing them up close weren't the same thing.

"You could borrow my coat," Eleanor said, politely. It wouldn't do for him to become frostbitten, even if it meant covering up his rather beautiful torso.

Atton never had his jacket lying anywhere too far from his bed, so he had that ... and his boxers.

And it was damned cold.

He muttered curses under his breath as he stood there.
