Kathy loved Halloween. It was the one night of the year back home when she could pretend to be anything other than quiet, bookish Kathy and become someone loud, exciting, and colorful. Even here, where she was doing a semi-okay job of that by herself, Halloween remained the best holiday ever

She frowned, thoughtfully. "You could have spent money on candy instead of eggs to throw at people's houses, right? But you didn't. So, obviously, it wasn't just about the candy."

When the knock on her door came, though, she set her book aside and blinked calmly at the girl in her doorway.
"...Hello?" she said politely, but somewhat puzzled.

Right now, he was hanging out, eating some candy that had hit him in the head earlier. When someone knocked on his door, he wandered over and opened it up.
"Hey, Kathy!" he said, smiling as he pulled open the door.

"Happy Halloween!" she said, holding up her pillowcase sack. "Trick or treat!"
Yup. She was that corny.

He left the door open and went to retrieve the bag of peanut butter cups that he'd bought. He reappeared quickly.
"Ta da!"

And then she had to explain time and time again that she wasn't trick or treating for the candy, exactly.

He hadn't had any luck buying the traditional good-luck charms and poisoned bits around here, so he'd just made a few of his own to hand out, just in case.
Charms. He hadn't managed to find the right kind of poison for the other. You were welcome, Fandom.
Now he was just sitting in his room with Carlos's lab coat wrapped around him and a pair of fake glasses on, waiting to see if anyone would come.
