Fourth Floor Common Room, Thursday Evening

Sep 13, 2012 16:24

Alec had a cat.

She was grey and tiny -- much, much less fat than Church, his cat from home -- and had claimed for herself a spot in his lap. She also seemed oddly fascinated by his tea, occasionally swiping her paw into his mug in fascination. There wasn't a whole lot Alec could do to stop her, either; he tried moving his mug to the table beside ( Read more... )

"Oh my god how are there so many?" Olive asked, wandering in and carrying the wee beagle puppy she'd had most of the day. "It's like a swarm. A swarm of fuzzy."

Not a bad thing, mind you.

Although he was aware that this was going to sound incredibly idiotic, Alec... said it anyway. "The first cat... took the liberty of releasing the next seven cats." Yeah. "I guess the containers are really easy to open."

"Mine popped right open this morning," Olive noted. "What're the odds that yours would all be cats, though?"

Lucky Alec.

"I guess it's a good thing," Alec tried. "If there were dogs in the group too, they might not get along so--" He shifted a bit on the couch to accomodate a kitty who seemed to really like digging, and in the process spotted Olive's beagle. "Oh." Well. "I didn't know you had that."

Clearly.

Sparkle had what more or less amounted to a kitten parade, plodding merrily along behind him as he walked into the common room.

"Cats eat meat, right? We got any ham or anything in the fridge?"

Ham seemed like the safest option. They were tiny and hungry, and there was a little black one that had claimed a chunk of fabric on the front of Sparkle's shirt with its little kitten claws and was hanging on for dear life. The only thing for it was to cuddle and pet and feed the little guy, obviously.

Oh, hey, Sparkle with his face this time! And a billion kitties. That was new.

"Fish, I think," Alec corrected him. "Usually. Or... this one keeps trying to drink tea, but I don't think that's normal."

Actually he was trying to swim in the tea. Also not normal.

"Tea's wet, he's probably thirsty," Sparkle decided, leaning over to look at the kitten before shrugging and going rifling through one of the cabinets for a can of tuna or something. "Maybe hungry, too. You feed any of them today?"

Sparkle didn't care where they came from, little weird balls or not, little baby animals ate food. That's how it worked.

Alec took that as a cue to get off the couch and head over to the kitchen area, though it took a minute because he had to lift about four cats off of him in the process. "Just the little grey one," he said. "The rest could probably use something, if you want to... help put together a cat feast or something."

He paused.

"For the cats. Not of them. You-- probably knew that."

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE," came a tiny scream, preceding the entrance of a very excited toy poodle puppy. If one looked closely amongst the puppy's curls, one would find the source of the scream: Arietty, clinging to its ruff for dear life.

Well, at least she looked like she was having fun trying not to fall off the puppy.

"Eeeeeeeee?" Was the dog screaming, or...? "You okay down there?"

Okay, totally not the dog. The really tiny student.

The dog bounded excitedly over to Sparkle to say hi, taking Arietty with him. She managed to peer up through the fluff, grinning. "This is way more fun than my pet rat!"

And Sparkle, kitten stuck a-la-velcro to the front of his chest and all, crouched down to say hello to both the dog and the girl that was riding around on it.

"Probably a bit bigger than your rat," Sparkle decided, offering the puppy a hand to sniff. "Unless you have like one of those big nasty sewer rats, those things get like twice this guy's size I swear. But they're not really pet material, that type."

Sparkle knew rats, okay?

Jim had no kittens or puppies. He hadn't even know there was some infestation of animals until he'd finally left his room and nearly tripped on kittens in the hallway.

He'd actually wandered into the common room to try and find a place free of animals and shook his head at the sight of Alec surrounded by kittens.

"Did these animals have some massive orgy or something?" Jim asked, scratching his head. "How are there so many?"

"Fandom," Sparkle reported, ever-so-helpfully, from where he was being swarmed by kittens trying to get at the tuna that he was setting out for them. "... Probably Fandom. There were these red and white ball things?"

He grinned and shrugged, and the black kitty that was clinging to his shirt mewed in protest.

"Fandom."

It was the most sensible answer.

Jim raised an eyebrow at the answer but accepted it pretty easily. He'd seen crazier even if the massive amounts of animals were a little creepy.

Was he the only one that saw that?

"So, this...island just burps up kittens and puppies every once in awhile? Do they hatch from eggs or something?"

He needed to be less logical about this.

"Hell if I know," Sparkle replied. "I mean, there were shark-dogs a few weeks back, so what's a few kittens, right? This little guy was in a ball, about... this big," he gestured with his hands, "with a button on it. I'm going to assume that's where the rest of them came from, too. You haven't seen any of them lying around anywhere?"
