With new kids around, Stacey figured it was smart to wander around a little and get to meeting new people. Which is what brought her up to the fourth floor to talk to the girl with the super pretty hair (much better than Mallory's, too) and ask, "What are you working on?"

Olive turned towards the new voice, smiling a little, and held up the beginnings of a coin purse. "I'm always losing all my quarters in my bag," she admitted. "And hey, that is a lot of money over time."

She'd taken accounting classes. That felt like a legit statement.

"Oh, that's so cool," Stacey said, actually meaning it. "I can't do anything like that. Do you do a lot of this?"

"Kinda. I modified a bunch of my clothes for a...performance art thing last year," Olive admitted. "But I also have a sewing machine so I cheat a lot, too. It's not hard, though."

Toby'd thought about heading over to his own common room to watch some TV, but then a little snooping had revealed that hey, there were already some people hanging out on the fourth floor, so...

"Hey," he greeted. "What's on?"

Olive just pointed at the television helpfully. "It's the one where the robot's a jackass!"

That's all of them. Seriously hlpful, Olive.

"Isn't that all of them?"

Olive pointed at him, then touched her nose. "Kind of the hook, I think. I dunno, I mostly have it on for background noise. Silence is creepy."

Not always, Olive. God.

Jessica spent last night doing paperwork, this morning getting ready for classes, and this afternoon getting in a little workout.

So right now she was ready to relax. After overcoming the first day nerves and pretty much figuring out that nobody was going to try to destroy her here, she figured she could even do that out in public where there might be people. Weird, right?

"Somehow, 'watching cartoons' wasn't what I expected to be the first thing I saw people doing when I came to boarding school," she said. "Maybe it really isn't so bad here."

"I know," Olive said. "I feel like I should be reading some kind of really dusty book with my nose about an inch from the page. But, you know, this was on and doesn't aggravate my allergies."

"I'd give you some Claritin so you could stop rotting your mind with this stuff, but I'm all out. So mind-rot it is!" Jessica said, plopping down on a couch. "What is this anyway?"

"You've never seen this?" Olive asked, raising her eyebrows. "It's syndicated like crazy and it's been around for like, ten years or something. It's about this group of future delivery people and their obnoxious robot."
