Main Campfire, Sunday evening

Jun 10, 2012 18:47

For the life of him, Dave couldn't find where his tent was supposed to be. He spent a while looking and for the life of him, he just couldn't find it. Eventually Dave had to give up and made his way to the main campfire, figuring that maybe somebody could point him in the direction of Nonexis Te ( Read more... )

Victor had no idea what he was doing in a tent in the woods.

Well, in an absolute sense he did. His laptop battery was dying, so he was forcing himself to leave the electronics behind and enjoy ... nature.

Never mind that nature, other than the odd afternoon at the beach, was absolutely not his thing.

"Think they're really going to make us stay out here for weeks?" he asked, plopping down by the campfire. "I'm not feeling it."

"I always heard oatmeal baths," Victor said. "But maybe you could yell while you were in the bath."

"If I'm getting into a bathtub full of oatmeal, you better believe I'll be yelling," Dave said. "It might not be so bad if we had an oatmeal rain. At least then everyone would be in the same boat."

"Yeah, but we'd all be all covered in oatmeal. I don't even like oatmeal," Victor said. "I might pick the itching."

"Yeah, but people have umbrellas, so it shouldn't be too tough to stay out of the oatmeal," Dave said.

"Come to think of it, I hope the tents are sturdy enough in case it rains solid food."

Yes, Victor, food rain was common enough that he was just talking about it off-handedly.

"So what you're saying is, I should expect solid food rain at least once," Victor said, resigned. "Not, like, whole turkeys, right? Those would hurt."

"I've never seen anything that big. I mean, there's a first time for everything, but it's usually not anything that's going to cause much pain," Dave said.

"Absolutely not," Topher assured him. "I give it five days before people start to flee. Or die."

Victor groaned. "Probably. Death might actually be preferable."

He didn't mean that.

"Which one are you in? I got La."

"Um, Billy." Wait, that wasn't the name of the tent, that was an occupant. Guess what Topher had been obsessing over! "I mean, something. I forget the name. Not Billy. "

"Sure it's not Billy?" Victor asked, managing to keep a straight face. "'Cause that seems to be the name on your mind, dude."

And now he was going to take a moment to be grateful he hadn't, as far as he knew, gotten put in with a couple.

...Yeah, Mercy and Sam might be looking at a somewhat grim experience in Peni Tent.

"He's in it too," Topher mumbled, ducking his head a little. SHUT YOUR FACE, VICTOR. "'s like the school office has a thing about putting us together. Every time."

"The school office thinks you guys are meant to be," Victor said, dryly, and chucked a bit of paper at the fire to see it flare up. "You don't ask, they just .... pair you?"

"Like I would volunteer to sleep five inches away from someone!" Topher flailed flailed. "The office is a bunch of jerks."

"They are, but if you have to sleep five inches from somebody, may as well be somebody you like, right?"

Or such was Victor's theory.

"Noooo," Topher said with a fervent shake of his head. "Better if it's someone who's weird and not... interesting like that. That's why it works with me and Dave."

Sorry, Dave.
