2nd floor common room ; saturday morning

Sep 24, 2011 09:17

Sam wasn't really a fan of being up this early. He couldn't say what'd woken him up either. It hadn't been a nightmare because he remembered those vividly and it hadn't been a visit from Brooke or Ashley either. He'd just...woken up and hadn't been able to get back to sleep ( Read more... )

Something weird was going on. That much, Toby had been able to deduce from the rather constant stream of mental WTFing, shrieking, or annoyed resignation that had served as his wake up call this morning.

But right now all he really wanted was some freaking cereal, and the second floor common room always seemed to have a better selection in the cupboards.

"Hey man," he greeted as he wandered over to the kitchenette.

"You're just jealous," Toby decided. "Of my clearly superior hair."

"I don't do jealousy," Sam informed him mock haughtily. "Besides, I've been told I've got nice hair so there."

Sam would have stuck his tongue out if he'd been that kind of guy but he wasn't so he just smirked.

"Yeah, well, I bet if they saw mine they'd revise their opinion of the relative niceness of your hair," Toby retorted.

"I doubt it," he said considering he knew who'd told him his hair was nice and she didn't just give compliments like that easily. "It's okay, Toby, you can have the second place trophy for hair. Mine obviously comes first. No shame in runner up, man."

Right, well. Toby was pretty sure Kenzi would think his hair was better than Sam's. So there.

"You're right, I have to let you win sometimes," he conceded, because no, he wasn't just going to give up that easily, as ridiculous as the argument was.

"You're a true saint," Sam said, shaking his head. "How's the shoe situation? Did the ones I brought you help at all?"

"They did," Toby said, with an appreciative smile. "Purple just doesn't always work with everything I own." Not that he owned a lot, really. "I was planning on getting some of my own sometime this weekend, though, so I won't abscond with them much longer."

"Still haven't found out who took your shoes?" Sam guessed, shaking his head. "Whoever it was, I'm sure karma will come back to bite them. Maybe their own shoes will...catch on fire or something."

"I'd make a terrible detective," Toby admitted ruefully. You'd think th telepathy would've been helpful in this case, but... Not if whoever stole his shoes didn't spend a large amount of time thinking about it. "I'd be okay if their shoes caught on fire though. Maybe not with them *in* them..." he was annoyed, sure, but not *that* annoyed.

"You could spend a day in the lobby just watching everyone's shoes," Sam said not all that seriously. "Maybe the person who took your shoes is wearing them around like a trophy or something."

Toby snickered. "Yeah, maybe one day if I get really bored," he said, just as seriously.

Yeah, Kate had probably slotted firmly into at least two of those categories in his mental alarm clock this morning. At least she'd settled more into the third after a mug of coffee and realising there was probably fuck all she could do about this for the time being.

Which didn't mean Toby was getting anything more chatty than a grunted, "Morning," when he wandered in.

"Morn..." Toby trailed off as he glanced over at the speaker only to realise he didn't recognise them at all. Not that he'd actually met everyone at the school yet, but it was a small school. You got to know faces, if not names. "...ing," he finished, rather lamely.

Kate raised an eyebrow.

"That was really very uncertain for a greeting," she noted. This was kind of entertaining, if only for watching the confusion.

"Sorry," Toby said sheepishly. "You just- caught me off guard."
