The Deck [Sunday, Late Morning]

Apr 24, 2011 14:28

Obligatory holiday call to Ellie down, and Chuck had taken his book and a 'breakfast' of a glass of Jelly Beans outside and found the he could add Peeps to the menu (so long as he was quick enough to get hold of them before the three second rule applied). The island didn't want him to be healthy today, so who was he to try and derail that plan? ( Read more... )

Trying to shower this morning had yielded a stream of jelly beans falling onto his head. That had put Percy in a crappy mood so he'd tried to get rid of that by heading to the beach for swim. It was warm enough and the water was water there.

He was coming back now, towel draped around his neck and wet hair clinging to his head when he spotted someone on the deck, talking to himself while reading.

"The book's not talking back, is it?" Percy asked because he couldn't really rule that out.

Chuck hadn't really expected anyone to be listening, book or otherwise, and he glanced over with a, "Huh?" before he really processed what had been said and swallowed his mouthful.

"Oh. Right. No, no and if it does I think I should demand my money back, because that is definitely not what I ordered." Even if it would be kind of neat...

"Well, that's comforting at least," he said, stepping up onto the deck and wincing when something rained down on his head.

Again.

When he looked and found yellow Peeps, he frowned and stared up at the sky, wondering if Zeus was having himself a laugh or something. "What is it with this day, man? First jellybeans and now this."

Yeah, Chuck did not have a problem with food rain, provided it was safe non-messy food rain, and he grinned, raising his glass of jelly beans in a toast.

"You've been here at Christmas, right?" This was nothing. "I almost got buried in cookies when I opened my closet once."

While it was true that Alexander was used to a lot of odd things happening to him, this morning, all the candy everywhere was feeling like a bit much, and he definitely needed to get outside and get some fresh air.

...

"Is there something...different out here?" he asked, once he got to the deck and took a look at the odd-looking grass that most certainly did not look right.

"Marshmallows," Chuck answered cheerfully, holding one of his up. Or, they were as close to marshmallows as something with that many preservatives could be. "I'm thinking of maybe collecting them all together and jumping in them..."

"That," Alexander noted, "sounds much better than eating all of this. If I didn't know any better, I'd think the island was trying to get rid of us all now that the semester is over by killing us with an overdose of sugar..."

And the morbid part was that Alexander sounded almost genuinely concerned about that. That's what you get when you spend your whole life knowing that someone will try to kill you once they were finished with you...

"That... would be very creepy of it," Chuck agreed, wrinkling his nose and eying his latest Peep. "If it makes you feel better, I've eaten about twenty and not dropped dead yet?"

A moment more considering it, and that marshmallow too went into his mouth. "Bit of both?" he suggested, as he was finishing it off.
