Main Campfire | Afternoon | Tuesday | July 27

Jul 27, 2010 13:55

Alex didn't have a damn thing going on today which made it easier to decide to hoof it out to the campfire and take a seat there. Outside meant he could smoke and not get bitched at by cabinmates. Outside meant he could watch people passing by, maybe entertain himself by annoying them. Outside meant not feeling like the walls were closing in ( Read more... )

Wesley walked over to the campfire without looking up from the book in his hands - oddly enough, the same book that had spent the weekend as a cranky older British man. When he finally looked up to choose a log to sit on, he saw Alex. "Oh, hello," he said. "Would you believe this isn't even the first time this week that I've come across someone smoking at the campfire?"

Okay, it wasn't the most fascinating thing in the world. Whatever.

Wesley snickered at that. "Oh yes, I can hardly keep from jumping up and down from excitement."

He didn't know why he was being so social and snarky all of a sudden. Probably because Fandom was the first time in years that he'd actually been around peers who didn't automatically hate him as a rule.

Alex raised an eyebrow at that snark and couldn't help but snickering at it. He hadn't expected it but it wasn't a bad thing.

"Want an autograph?" Alex asked, going with it. "If you were a girl, I'd sign your tits. Or your ass. But you're not so you're shit out of luck."

"Blast!" he exclaimed, voice dripping with sarcasm. "I suppose I'll just have to gaze from afar."

And that was taking the sarcasm a little too far. He shifted awkwardly.

At that, Alex laughed loudly and shook his head. "I didn't know you had that in you, Wes. You get yourself high this morning?"

"I did spend the afternoon running through a maze in the Reserves. But no, no drugs that I know of. I would think that would be more your territory."

"You ran through a maze?" Alex repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Like a pet mouse or something?"

"Something like that," he said dryly. Frankly it hadn't been the most interesting exercise he'd ever done, so he may have been a wee bit resentful. "It was allegedly a form of training - we were running from ghosts."

"And how'd you do?" Alex wondered. "Get out of the maze or get stuck in there, destined to be ghost food?"

"One clue as to the answer to that question would be that I'm currently here, yes?" he snarked.

"Hey, someone might have let you out," Alex pointed out, shrugging. "Took pity on you and your little lost boy ways."

Wesley snorted. "Oh, yes, I was running around like a gerbil until Kennedy and Zach finally allowed me to leave."

Actually that sounded a lot like something that could have happened in Sunnydale. He revised, "No. I escaped quite adeptly, thank you very much."

"Probably better than I would have done but I would have gotten bored and just stopped to sleep or something."

And that was the honest truth. He didn't do well with things that got boring.

"Probably why I'm not in the Reserves. Too boring, too much work and I'm too lazy."

And that pretty much defined the exact opposite of what Wes was like, which was probably why he enjoyed talking to Alex so much.

"Fair enough," he said, mulling it over. "I generally like to keep myself occupied with tasks of that nature, though I certainly see why some might find it less than enjoyable."

"You are like the classic overachiever, aren't you?" Alex wondered.

He grinned. Yep, hit the nail on the head there, Alex.

"I suppose one could say that," he answered modestly. "At least I make my best effort."
