"Dude, it reeks," Puck said as he wandered in, looking fairly grumpy after the weekend. Little Noah had kind of ruined Puck's reputation, he thought.

"I know," Mat said, frowning hard at the microwave. "This machine killed my snack."

"Put it in too long," Puck told him helpfully, shaking his head. "It's a microwave, man. Just put it in for like two minutes until they stop popping."

Yeah, of course he knew it was popcorn. Burned popcorn had a completely unique smell.

"I pushed the popcorn button," Mat said, pointing at the machine accusingly.

Hayley was graduated. Not that she actually had this thought sink in at all, but that was that. Her time on this island was now limited... though she'd be clinging with all her might.

So tonight, she followed her nose to the burnt popcorn smell.

"I don't think you're doing that right," she declared.

"The smoke tipped me off," Mat said dryly. "This is why I don't cook."

"Well, we all have our own talents," Hayley said. "I'm sure you'll manage to get by on looks."

Mat grinned. "Maybe. I don't suppose you could help a poor, hungry man out?"

"Hello, Mat," Raven said, as she just happened to be passing through the third floor. She blushed a teeny bit remembering her wee self arguing with him about kisses.

Mat winked at her. "Hello, Raven. Nice to see you yourself again."

"It was strange to be so young again," Raven said. "But at least it was not as upsetting as some of the other transformations that have occurred here. It is good to be myself again, however, and that you are yourself."

"I have to check with Karla," he said, "because I think I gave her my horse in exchange for cookies."

"It smells in here," Elle declared as she walked into the common room.

Yes, Elle, let's state the obvious, why don't we?

"It ain't me!" Hayley declared, giggling. She then waved at her friend from her spot on the couch.

"Well, good, because that'd be kinda icky if it was," Elle said, laughing as she returned the wave and resisted the urge to pounce for a hug.

"I think I'd have to be on fire to smell like that," Hayley said. "And I don't want to be on fire. That'd hurt."

It had been a long, weird day and Claire was getting tired of her own company so she wandered down the hall.

"... why does it smell like something is burning?"

"No idea," Mat said. "I think that machine over there might be on fire."

Not that he had anything to do with it. Really.

"Apparently someone failed at making popcorn," Claire remarked.

She somehow suspected Mat had something to do with it.

"Is that what that smell is?" he asked innocently.

Only he was Mat, and hadn't been innocent, well, ever.
