The Deck, Saturday Morning

Mar 07, 2010 00:30

The deck near the dorms was, for all intents and purposes, completely normal. The only thing that might have seemed even remotely out of place was the fact that there was a palomino horse (of course, of course) on the aforementioned deck. The horse wore a jaunty hat and seemed quite interested in the business section of the morning paper ( Read more... )

Jo hadn't noticed anything in particular out of the ordinary this morning. At least not until she got out onto the deck and noticed the horse.

The horse in a hat. "Are you a student or a teacher?"

Ed normally didn't talk to anyone other than Wilbur (he thought it was funnier that way), but he was for all intents and purposes on vacation, so the self-imposed rules didn't count.

"Hello," Mister Ed greeted, looking up from his paper. "I'm Mister Ed."

Jo processed the whole talking horse thing remarkably quickly, all things considered.

"I'm Jo. Jo Harvelle," she said, with only a minimum of staring. "Mister Ed you say?"

There was a very good chance she was going to need to take some pictures this weekend.

"That's me," Mister Ed nodded. Okay, it was more flailing of the head in random directions, but it might have been taken as a nod. "I've never met a girl named Jo before. Are you sure you're really named Jo or are you horsing around? It's okay if you are. I horse around all the time."

The palomino seemed far too pleased with himself for that pun.

Robin was busily planning a route to look for super villains, and thinking of excuses to give later for where Dick had gone. (Robin can multi-task in his head because he's the Boy Wonder).

But his train of thought was thrown a bit when he saw the horse. With a hat. That was so cute!

He grinned at the horse. It must have gotten out of the stable somehow.

"What are you looking at, junior?" Mister Ed asked the grinning boy.

Robin started, and gaped. "Holy peanut butter!" he cried. "A talking horse!" Unless it was a trick. Maybe the Joker was up to something.

"You've never heard a talking horse before? Maybe you should start listening a little closer."

A horse with a jaunty hat reading the paper. Either this was a trick, or this was one of Blondie's horses from back home. "Anything good in the paper?"

"Have you read it lately?" Mister Ed asked. "Nothing but sad news and even more sad stock prospects."

So it was a talking horse. "You have an interest in stocks?" he asked. hey, it could be someone who was an accountant.

"Who doesn't? Retirement isn't going to pay for itself, you know. Wilbur might be providing for me in his will, if things go my way, but it doesn't hurt to have some investments up your sleeve to keep the oats and carrots flowing."
