The Salle, Monday Morning

Jan 11, 2010 10:06

It ws morning, it was Monday, and Arthur was in the salle, going over the edge of his own sword to make sure it was still decent for actual combat. Sure, sharpening the thing wasn't strictly his job, but he liked to make sure just in case something showed up.

He was also still mildly cranky over the phone thing, but it wasn't like mildly cranky ( Read more... )

Merlin's mobile was safely put away today. Just in case he got any more of those messages.

So, instead, he was polishing armor. Because that didn't involve spatulas.

"Hey, Merlin." Dinah had her sword in hand before she realized what was different; Merlin wasn't playing his phone like a Gameboy today. "You didn't get any messages from me over the weekend, did you? I hope?"

"...not that I recall, no," Merlin replied slowly.

"Whew. Good." Really, Merlin didn't need to hear her getting hurt about Roy's message, or anything about kissing girls. "I got some weird ones this weekend. None from you, though."

Fiona was there for her own purposes, feeling a little out of practice as she'd been off on vacation and there'd been so much to do in Thailand that it'd gone right out of her head.

Arthur got a nod of acknowledgment, since it didn't hurt to be polite. Then she picked up the tessen and straightened the string on her yo yo with a blade to act as a sword and got to practicing.

"Hey, Fiona." Dinah stopped to watch for a bit, and smiled. "Looking good. How's your week going?" She fell into practice stance, and started running her drills.

Fiona did her own drills, that... didn't look too different from what Dinah was doing. She might not have spoken to Arthur much, but she'd found his teaching sound enough.

"Good. Spent a few days off last week."

You know, the day with her classes? That one.

"Went to Thailand. Really nice. You?"

"Thailand? Wow." Dinah smiled, a little envious. "The usual first week stuff. Auditions at the play, introductions in class and reserves. Sparring with one of the new girls. Being silly on the weekend. Oh! You didn't get any phone messages from me, did you?"

Dinah got there on time. Like a little thing like bruising or practicing with Professor Atreides would keep her from showing up.

She might have sent Arthur an exasperated glare for having said so on Radio first, though, before heading toward the practice sword rack.

"Dinah. Good morning," Arthur greeted, idly. He was very good at ignoring such glares.

No surprise. Years of practice with all those knights back at Camelot and all. "Morning." Dinah started her drill and said as if they were continuing a previous conversation, "I would never skip unless I was actually injured. Professor Atreides didn't use knives or fire or anything. Just balls. Sheesh." Once, doce, ocho.

"Good," Arthur said, idly, "Because I would hate to think your incompetence extended to being unable to weather some bruises. Take it to defensive today."

Sometime on Saturday, Gunn had received a package from home which included some of his old weapons and a few new ones from his friends.

Which included a battle axe which appeared to have been constructed from an old hub cap. Which Gunn was proudly bringing into the Salle.

"Hey, check this out!" he said holding it above his head. "Is this tight or what?"

Arthur paused in his work long enough to blink at Gunn. "I didn't realise it was normal for battle axes to be employed in this time," he said, giving the blade an appraising look.

"You haven't been to my neighborhood," Gunn said with a chuckle. "One good swing of this and your average bloodsucker would be onion soup mix."

"Let me see that."

Arthur's sword? Getting sheathed as he strode towards Gunn.

Roy was still trying to figure out what the best place on this island was to shoot an arrow without someone (or an endangered miniature deer) wandering in front of it, so today he was checking out the salle.

It just figured he'd pick the same time as everyone else seemed to be there.

"Morning."

By now, Arthur expected the influx of people, yes, and even bothered to take a moment to stop going through his drills to greet him.

It wasn't an excessively warm greeting, but it was a greeting.

"Morning," Roy said as he looked around. What the hey, it couldn't hurt to ask, right? "Do you know where a guy can shoot something around here?"

"The shooting range," Arthur told him, sounding a little amused. "Gun, bow, or crossbow?"
