After one of those weeks that he'd sooner forget, Alex was feeling a little more settled when he brought himself to the roof for a smoke and some fresh air. The cooler temperatures were welcome for a guy who spent most of his life in a place where the winters were cold as hell, these were almost mild. Still, they were preferred over sweltering ( Read more... )

An RC helicopter came buzzing through the air followed by a cheerful voice: "Kshhh. Base, this is Akatsutsumi. We are over the alien structure. We're going in closer to investigate. Over." Momoko popped around a corner herself, making sure she was well within the remote's range. Oh, someone else was up here?

"Oops!" Had she bothered him? She directed the helicopter well away. "Sorry," she called out cheerfully, just in case she had.

Alex was just...going to stare at that. Had be been morphed back to grade school?

"You didn't hit me," he said, voice dry. "You would've known if you had."

"I also didn't mean to disturb you!" Momoko landed the helicopter and grinned at the stranger. "I'm Momoko. Some people come up here to be alone and don't like cheerful people like me being around and having fun when they're trying to be mopey and sad."

"Alex," he said, making a face at her statement and then shaking his head. "I could ignore you if you were bothering me. Not that hard to shut people out."

Leave it to Valentine to bring her laptop with her up to the roof, but she wanted a little bit of air, and there seemed a pattern in the type of people who went up there. Despite knowing otherwise, when she spotted Alex, she couldn't refuse a little teasing, "I thought your domain was usually closer to the ground."

"I haven't been down there in awhile," he said, glancing backwards at the new arrival. "You need to catch up."

"Or maybe actually care," Valentine offered, with a grin, as she found a nice place with a good view to settle, putting her laptop on her knees and opening it to boot it up. "How've you been, Alex?"

"What, you don't care about me?" Alex asked, hand to his heart. "That mean you asking me how I've been is just making conversation and you're not even gonna listen to the answer? Harsh, Valentine."

After a spar that Rose didn't think was going to leave Dimitri with too much to criticise but one that was going to leave her hurting tomorrow, she wasn't even close to ready to head to bed. More fresh air seemed good, and she found her way up to the roof.

That there were people already up there wasn't a huge surprise, and Rose gave a general 'hey'. Some people would generally get a warmer greeting but when they acted crazy, that often stopped.

Alex had almost forgotten about this little situation but it came back pretty fast when Rose appeared. Yeah, he'd acted crazy but it'd been...just a shit week. She'd gotten caught in the middle.

"Evening," he said mildly, nodding. "Welcome to the roof."

"My very own welcome?" Rose asked, unable not to be amused. "Are you the welcome wagon now? Do I get a gift basket?"

"Take a raincheck?" he wondered, digging into his pocket and coming up empty. "Unless you want some gum."
