Third Floor Common Room - Saturday Afternoon

Sep 12, 2009 12:05

As much as he hated being that guy who did work in public, Chuck found that his room had too much porn too many distractions to really get anything done. And he really had to get stuff done. That parents thingamawhatsit was in a few weeks and Chuck had to make sure his bars would be something worth showing his father. So he took his laptop with him ( Read more... )

Kate wandered in to the common room after detention, and headed straight for the fridge. She wanted something that wasn't tea, and she wanted it now.

Everything else - like say, noticing people - would have to wait.

Chuck had kept the TV on Rumor Gal because at least he could block that out easily enough while working, but he looked up at Kate when she came in and was prepared to deny that he was actually watching the show should she give him the slightest weird look.

Kate poured herself a glass of orange juice, and only noticed Chuck after taking a few sips, and a few steps away from the kitchen area. "Oh, hi," she said.

She glanced at the TV and made a 'meh' face. Could have been worse. Could have definitely been better.

"Hi," he said, looking up from the work that he had been pretending to concentrate on. "The TV is being weird."

Yes. Weird.

"Oh, haven't you heard?" Valentine said, catching Chuck's comment as she, also with a laptop tucked under her arm. "That's who controls all the marketing and programing these days."

She then dropped into a chair and shifted the laptop to her lap.

"Hi."

"I'm surprised there isn't more Jonas Brothers on then," Chuck said, smirking at her. He gestured towards Valentine's laptop. "You working too?"

"Not on anything of importance," Valentine said with a shrug. "It's more that I just start having really bad nervous breakdowns if I'm more than three feet away from my laptop at any given times. Product of the future. You think people are connected to their iPhones and Blackberries now, just you wait."

"That sounds...completely terrifying," Chuck said. "But not surprising."

Effy had just spent her whole morning in detention, talking to people. Might as well continue that streak, she decided, so when she heard people in the common room, she did actually pause in the doorway.

"Nice choice." She was being sarcastic.

"I didn't choose it," Chuck insisted. "There is something wrong with the TV. It's only playing this crap."

For god's sake, Chuck would welcome an effing football game right now. That's how desperate he was.

Actually, Effy would agree. "Better than the reality TV shit it stuck me with." Third floor television, definitely possessed.

"Hey now, they can be entertaining sometimes," Chuck said. "Reality show cat fights are way better than teen soap cat fights."

Mirax was actually looking for something to eat, having dismissed her own common room's kitchen as "meh," but she had to stop and see what was on TV.

And she was just tilting her head and trying not to look too amused. It was not working.

"There's nothing else on," Chuck said. Really, out of all the things he's stumbled across so far, Rumor Gal was the most watchable. At least it had nice clothes.

"It's okay if you like it. No one will judge," she lied.

"I do not enjoy Rumor Gal in the least," he said. "Though if you do want to mock someone for liking it, Cal lives on the fourth floor."
