William Howard Taft Campfire, Thursday Morning

May 14, 2009 09:04

Romeo was still sleepy when he wandered out of the cabin, mug of coffee clenched in one hand. (Someday he'd learn to make it properly without burning it. This wasn't that day, but this attempt was at least palatable when mixed almost 50-50 with cream and sugar.) Leto, who wasn't aware of the meaning of glitter in Fandom, had also been a little startled at the falling glitter. He walked past the cabins and as he noticed Romeo, he approached him.

"Is this a common weather phenomena during this season?" he asked, trying to brush the glitter off his shoulders and arms, but it stuck to his skin.

"It's new to me," Romeo said, shaking his head (and releasing a tiny cloud of glitter from his hair as he did so). "There are jokes about it making people kiss, but I thought that was only jokes."

"Kiss?" Leto gave him an amused look. "It does remind me a little of sand."

"Very sparkly, bright-colored sand," Romeo agreed. "And aye, kiss. I don't know the source of it, but I've always heard jokes about glitter causing men to become more than usually affectionate."

Ned hadn't yet ventured out to a campfire but when he saw someone familiar at his own cabin's campfire, he decided it couldn't hurt.

"Morning, Romeo," he greeted as he took a careful seat on one of the logs.

"Good morning, Ned," Romeo said, still waving a hand about to watch it sparkle. It was on the mesmerizing side. "It is raining glitter today."

Just in case Ned hadn't noticed.

So wrapped up in his own thoughts, he hadn't and when Romeo said something, he looked up and caught some glitter on his face and lips.

"Well."

He brushed it away.

"That's new."

"That might be how one can tell we aren't new here," Romeo observed wryly. "Something that shouldn't fall from the sky is doing so, and the most we say is that it's new."

"It's sparkling out!" she informed him gleefully, just in case he hadn't noticed, and bouncing over to attempt a hug.

Romeo carefully set the coffee on a tree stump and let Ino hug him. "I'm not kissing any boys," he said, because she would get that kind of idea.

She hugged him for a moment longer, then let go, taking a seat near him. "Why not?" Ino asked, far too innocently.

"Because I don't want to, but it's raining glitter and I know you," Romeo answered.

Dōjima was just leaving the cabin to go get some coffee, as she could smell someone's failed attempt and it was making her hungry. Coffee. Maybe a pastry, too.

She couldn't help the grin that broke out across her face as she came out the door and saw Romeo standing in the sparkles. "Feeling the urge to start kissing yet, koibito?"

"I see you, so yes," Romeo said, with his own grin. "Anyone else would have to wait a very long time."

"So this isn't the infamous boykissy-glitter I've heard so much about?" she answered, shading her eyes with her hand and squinting up into the sky. "I'm starting to think we've been lied to."

"Shamelessly, horribly lied to, I'm afraid," Romeo said. "I hope you'll put up with my company nonetheless?"

Liir wandered over as soon as he saw other people, ruffling his hair almost frantically to try and get it off (not that it was working; he just looked like a localized glitter storm).

"The stuff is everywhere, isn't it?" Romeo grinned. "Good morning, Liir."

"Everywhere," he agreed.

"You should see my dog."

"Is she a walking ball of glitter?" Romeo inquired. "I can't imagine that makes her very happy."
