Third Floor Common Room, Sunday night very late

Mar 22, 2009 20:04

Dinah had bells on the windows again; champagne poppers looped around the fridge and running to her fingers. A Nerf gun under her arm. Popcorn and bubble wrap laid down on the floor. Balloons stuffed around the area of the fridge and food preparation area. And a bucket of water balanced on top of the fridge, leading to another string connected to ( Read more... )

Seregil had been observing Dinah all week, waiting to make his move.

He had considered coming in through the window, but decided not to make things more complicated than it needed to be. After all he had every right to be out in the hallways.

So his approach was merely to go down two floors and slip in the door silently.

He was very agile and carefully stepped in the small areas of the floor that had not been booby trapped -- at least until he could get to the furniture. Then he climbed on those and made his way carefully across the room, moving catlike and silent from one piece to another -- all without touching the floor.

Dinah yawned.

Somewhere waaaay down deep, she didn't so much hear something as maybe vaguely notice a presence somewhere near her.

She turned over, sighing.

Seregil froze when Dinah stirred, waiting until she had settled back into a deeper sleep to move again.

He made it to the kitchen, and balanced on the counter beside the fridge he examined the booby traps that had been rigged.

The bucket of water was the easiest to deal with. He pulled out his poinard that he'd hidden in his boot and got the string attaching it to the hinges and then carefully lowered it, setting it on the counter beside him.

The little bottle shaped items were a bit more problematic and Seregil took his time figuring out the exact pattern of the strings tied to them, so that when he finally started cutting the string, he was able to catch any of them bottles before they fell. They went into the bucket of water as he freed each one.

She'd put a lot of work into that, coming up with something that would make noise but not damage the kitchen, but she'd also counted on being a lot more awake.

Note for the record: the fifth night of staying up 'til 5am? Is that night that Dinah's body stages a coup and refuses to cooperate.

She shifted again, but wasn't even awake enough to register the little sounds of champagne poppers plopping into a bucket.
