Cal was in the gym bright and early this morning for his workout, so that he'd have plenty of time for everything else he had to do today. Which wasn't really that much to do, but he liked to take his time with things. Hated to feel rushed. Easy come, easy go ( Read more... )

Worf was also up early and gave a nod at Cal in greeting.

"Good morning," he said though there may be a doubt if he was wishing someone a good morning or just using it as a perfunctory greeting.

He then started to savagely beat the snot out of the punching bag.

"Morning," Cal muttered back, wedged between restraining a grunt at the lift he was in the middle of. The lift became a bit suspended for a moment, though, as he took note of Worf's...approach and found it...interesting.

Well, maybe he'd warmed up before he got there. Either way, Cal resumed his lifting with the note to not pick a fight with this one. Not that he intended to pick a fight with anyone, of course, but it was good to have a list of who to avoid if he ever felt the urge.

Worf noted the look and paused briefly in his pummeling to turn and look at Cal.

"Hm?"

Cal, rarely aware of his occasional glances until they were brought up, was momentarily confused, causing another pause of his work as he figured it out.

"Oh. Uh, nothing, it's just...well," he presumed his lifts, "so much for a warm-up there."

It wasn't so much the need to keep fit as the need to lose her mind while her body moved that drove River to the gym this morning. The not-quite-a-boy with the secrets was already there; she nodded in his direction before approaching the punchbag.

Cal needed a moment to try to remember the girl's name, a series of thoughts that landed him, ultimately, at a flower in the hair and Chapter Eleven's exgirlfriend and recollection.

"Morning, River," he greeted congenially, and passively, in a way that neither of their workout would be interrupted.

"Morning." She danced around the bag, alternately kicking and punching it.

Cal partially blamed the nice, casual approach to working out today for his unusual chattiness. "That bag," he observed lightly outloud, "has got to be insanely well made to hold through all the beatings I've noticed it gets."
