Second Floor Common Room, Monday Afternoon

Jun 02, 2008 08:45

Bowl of cereal in hand, Andrew flopped down on a couch and turned on the television. He flipped through the channels, finally landing on an episode of Dirty Jobs"Oh, Mike," Andrew said aloud, "I do so appreciate you reassuring me that life isn't that bad." He could always be working in a waste water treatment plant ( Read more... )

"Does the television talk back?" Ned asked, standing stiffly at the entrance to the common room. God, he hoped the television didn't talk back. He was just starting to get used to things.

Andrew turned around. "It hasn't yet," he replied. "Why, do they talk where you're from?" It was a possibility.

"...not that I ever saw," Ned said after a moment's thought. "I'm from here. Earth. Not here. I haven't lived on the island or anything before. Like underground. I didn't do that."

Andrew cocked his head to the side. "So you're not an underground cave dweller?" he asked for clarification.

After a fruitless morning spent searching for her unmentionables, Gwen made her way downstairs to the common room. "Afternoon," she said, smiling as she found somewhere to sit down.

"Hi," Andrew said. "Feel free to change the channel. I was just feeling me some Mike Rowe this morning."

"No, it's fine as is." Gwen hadn't really noticed the program before, but now she did. "Very fine. He's a bit alright."

"He's all rugged and... dirty," he said with a nod. "And his voice can be strangely hypnotic." He smiled at Gwen. "Of course, it would be hotter if he had an accent like yours." Not South African, he reminded himself.

Worf entered the CR looking for... Something. He eyed the television and boggled at it for a second or two.

"Dealing with sewage is considered entertainment?" He asked.

"Well..." Andrew thought it over. "Yes." He was finding it very entertaining. "It's all in the portrayal."

"He seems to be making light of the situation," Worf analyzed as he tugged on his cadet's uniform pants. "Is this meant to be humorous?"

"It's Mike Rowe," Andrew said, thinking this pretty much explained things. Then he glanced back over at Work. "He's a funny guy."

He thought for a moment. "Do they have humor where you're from?"

"G-Good afternoon," Hinata said, peeking her head into the room.

Andrew waved, his mouth full of cereal. "Goo' 'fter'oon," he replied.

It was probably a good thing that between Naruto and Kiba Hinata was used to ignoring when people talked with their mouths shut. "I d-don't believe we've m-met before," Hinata offered, stepping further into the room. "I am Hyuuga Hinata."

He swallowed. "Andrew Wells," he replied. "Feel free to have a seat or grab some food. You're new here, yes? Are you on this floor or just passing through?"

As if the move back into a multi-leveled rooming facility wasn't enough to irk Adah slightly, that at least had the benefit of the fact that she shared her room only with her rabbit and a significantly less chance of being woken up any time before noon. Of course, then came the rather puzzling murd nun oc that all the undergarments that she was pretty sure she remembered to pack and take back with her seemed to be missing. It was the sort of thing that had her worried for a moment, failing brains and what have you, but, after an extensive search, it left her just realizing that she did not have enough coffee in her system to deal with this right now.

So a limp was in order, to the common room, to change that. Notebook tucked under her arm because missing underwear, it turned out, didn't make for a mood very conducive to chatter, but she didn't need to use it to express a quirked eyebrow at that Andrew guy talking to the television set on her way to the coffee machine.

Andrew glanced over his shoulder at Adah. He never quite knew how to greet her, as she either seemed really annoyed with his attention or indifferent or, on the rare occasion, sociable. He opted for a quick smile and nod before turning his attention back to Mike.

Adah made a slight, leftly favoring nod back before dropping her notebook on the counter with a bit more force than necessary, and devoting her own attention to shifting single handedly, literally, through the cupboards for the things she needed for some coffee. She considered being unnecessarily loud in this task, as well, which she figured she could get away with, all things considered, but she was too curious of eavesdropping on any more conversations with the television set or if, perhaps, her tendencies to listen were a bit too obvious and the had silenced the dialog for a bit.

Andrew was more than happy to oblige the eavesdropping with continued conversation. Mike could, after all, hear everything he was saying. They were connected that way; it was a bond that transcended time, space, and pretaped broadcasting.

"Mike! Don't touch that." There was a brief pause. "Oh my god, you touched it."
