It was a nice enough morning that Karal went down to the stables early, so he'd have time to take Trenor out to graze before opening the library

"They know, thank goodness," Chris said. "I talked to Lana last night and she doesn't hold me responsible. My roommate forgave me too. I kinda called her a whore."
Chris facepalmed. "Err, well, apparently I was an old-school cowboy who thought women who weren't married and taking care of families were whores or old maids."
"Oh, Sunlord," Karal said, deeply sympathetic. "That would not go over well anywhere, but here...Yes. At least people know it wasn't you. Fandom Weirdness was responsible, and you're not to blame."
"I know. It's not easy, for all that Fandom Weirdness gets dismissed as nothing serious. I've been bitten by it a few times, nothing as bad as yours, though," he said. "But it's important to remember it wasn't you, no matter how much it feels likes it was."
"One I'm sure won't be necessary. People here understand about the Weirdness." He scratched Trenor's neck, then let the lead loose so he could wander a bit to graze. "Other than that, how have you been?"
"Can't complain," Chris said. "Things with me and Lana have been going well. We spent Thanksgiving at my sort-of-mother's place. That was interesting. Her friends are insane."
"I've been well, I think. A bit restless, but I'm not used to having so little to do." He tilted his head curiously. "And I must ask, if it's not too nosy of me - sort-of-mother?"
"It's a weird Fandom thing," he explained. "There's a teenage version of my mother that graduated from Fandom a couple years ago. And a teenage version of my aunt who graduated last year. And one that is currently a student."
He shrugged. "But my mom and my aunt who graduated are from a different dimension than me, my brother and the aunt who is currently a student."
"It's cool though," Chris said. "Up until recently, Wyatt and I were led to believe that our parents and aunts had died in a natural gas explosion when we were young. Our grandpa raised us. So it was a chance for us to get to know family we had never known."
When he saw Karal and a horse, he involuntarily shuddered. It was probably a very good thing he and Johnny hadn't actually found horses the other day.
He tried to sneak past without being spotted.
