Second Floor Common Room - Tuesday Morning

Sep 04, 2007 10:02

Meg didn't have class until Wednesday but she didn't want to get in the habit of sleeping in all day so when she woke up she got dressed and decided to check out the common room. It wasn't long before she was digging around in the kitchen and soon after she had eggs, bacon and pancakes cooking on the stove ( Read more... )

It was warm out on the roof last night, a bit uncomfortably warm, really. Still, Cassandra had managed to get nearly five hours of sleep, which was more than she usually got, so when she finally makes her way down to the second floor she's smiling sleepily.

Then she smelled the food and moved instinctually toward it. She poked her head around a corner curiously, covering a yawn with her hand, "Hello?"

Cass laughed, "I... I've never had one either. I'm not much of a people person?" But she didn't sound displeased by the idea, really.

"Oh, that's fine by me. You can tell me when I'm being annoying." she said. Cause Meg knew her cheerleader instincts kicked in a lot and that made some people uncomfortable.

Cass shook her head, "I don't think you're annoying." Her smile turned a bit sad, "You sort of remind me of someone I knew."

"Really? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" she asked.

"Good," Cass said quickly. "She was my best friend."

Meg wanted to ask about the "was" but didn't want to make her roommate uncomfortable. "Well, I'm glad it's a good thing."

Cassandra shook off the old memories and mustered a small smile. "So, um... breakfast?" she offered to pour some juice for Meg before pouring some for herself.

"Yes, thank you." she said. Meg took the bacon pan off the stove and added the bacon to the already large pile. "I really hope I didn't make too much."

That wrung a short laugh from Cassandra, "If you have any leftovers, I'll take care of it." Her stomach rumbled in a sort of confirmation.

Meg grinned. "That's good to know. I always end up overdoing it with the food when I'm cooking."

After a long sip of juice, Cassandra grinned, "I think we'll get along okay then."

It was amazing, really, how long Adah could make two pieces of bacon and an egg last; all day, if she had to. She didn't have anywhere else to go, and if people kept coming and she could sit there quietly at the table with her slow nibbles, observing them while appearing to observe her plate, then she would make it last until she had to get up, move again. Perhaps she was just putting off the moving, but eavesdropping in and catching Cassandra's name to match to her face and remember for later was a good way to do it, she figured. Ardnassac. Ard nass ac. The unheeded prophetess; be warned, be warned, great things will happen if you don't listen, and look, the fall of Troy that no one believed, I told you so, told you so, told you...

Nibbling on her bacon, Adah wondered if her fascination with names was a little too much, but she was going to think twice, perhaps, about disbelieving anything this Cassandra might say, just to be on the safe side.

Cassandra saw Adah, but she saw most people so that wasn't really remarkable. She did, however, stop and take a moment to look the girl over. She was... interesting. Despite the fact that there weren't many people around, her body language screamed for her to be left alone. Closed in, sort of protective.

Cassandra offered a brief wave, but didn't seek to intrude further.

Despite the thought she had a mere second ago likening the girl to her namesake, Adah distinctly left Cassandra unheeded, eyes down on her plate, slice of bacon to her mouth although she did not nibble, as if it was impossible to nibble and try to ignore that she could feel her eyes simultaneously. Adah did, after all, find it difficult to do a lot of things simultaneously. She swallowed the air in her throat, nodded hurriedly in response to the wave, but kept her eyes, herself distinctly closed off. People here noticed too much, way too much, she'd have to be more careful if she was going to continue being a ghost.

There was a long moment where Cassandra stood, looking indecisive. Eventually she walked toward Adah, or more precisely, toward a point that let her walk by Adah's table. Her voice was soft as she walked by without looking over.

"You're doing it wrong. The hiding. I could teach you if you wanted..." And then she was gone. She knew the other girl could find her if she wanted to.
