Third floor commoon room, Saturday night

He had been back in town for a couple days and watched his girlfriend leave. This meant one thing: Saturday night vegging in front of the TV with enough popcorn for anyone who might stop by.

Tonight he was watching the Discovery Channel, the big nerd.

"Hey, Peter," Dawn greeted him as she sat down on the couch near the popcorn. "What're we watching?"

[peter__parker]

"Hey, Dawn," Peter said. "Discovery Channel. Something about what life on Earth will be like after a comet hits. You know, something nice and cheery."

"Have people started eating each other yet? Or frozen to death?" She asked, not bothered by it.

[peter__parker]

"Not yet. They're also not fighting each other over oil in the Australian Outback, either," Peter said. "The end of the world is nothing like what the movies told me it would be."

In search of amusement, Z wandered into the common room. "Hey, Peter. What are we watching?"

[peter__parker]

"Hey, Z," Peter said. "Something on the Discovery Channel about a life after a comet strikes Earth. I don't know how plausible it is, but it's interesting."

"But the odds of being attacked by an alien robot are so much higher," Z said. "Why don't they do a show on that?"

[peter__parker]

"Because it's easier to deal with an alien robot attack than an extinction-level event," Peter explained.

[cantjossme]

"Educational TV?" Mel groaned as she entered the Common Room. "Jeez. Can't we find a lifetime movie to watch?"

[peter__parker]

"This has crappy reinactments of future events, isn't that enough?" Peter asked.

[cantjossme]

"Doesn't even look like an re-enactment of my future," Mel said settling down on the couch. "Where's the radiation that mutates everyone in the lower class?"

[peter__parker]

"It's less important than the new ice age so they're focusing on that," Peter said.

Hey, look. People. In his favourite common room with his favourite chair, with the TV on one of his favourite channels (no, they didn't play Carnivorous Kingdom, but they played a lot of things similar to it sometimes).

Chad so came in, had a seat, and grunted a greeting to everyone, a hand lifted in a waveless wave.

[peter__parker]

"Hey, Chad," Peter said. "How are things? Interesting as ever? Maybe even more interesting than that?"

There was a moment of silence from Chad as he considered the question. Or he could have just been taking a while to jump-start the thinking processes. "Depends," he said, finally. "Do you know about Prince Oscar Pedro yet?"

[peter__parker]

"Is he a new student?" Peter asked.

[sarcasm_guy]

Sokka grabbed some handfuls of popcorn and sat down on the couch contentedly before even bothering to see what was on the TV.

"What IS this??!?!" he asked, noting the educational content and lack of fistfights.

[peter__parker]

"It's a show about what would happen to the Earth after an extinction-level comet hit," Peter said.

[sarcasm_guy]

"Uh-huh," Sokka said, clearly unimpressed. "How do they know?"

[peter__parker]

"Between computer projections and looking to what we know of past ice ages, scientists can get a good idea of it," Peter said. "It's probably not completely accurate, but it's probably close."
