Outside the Dorms: Thursday Morning [4-5-07]

Apr 05, 2007 06:30

Isobel had called in sick to work again as she wasn't about to take the chance that Millie would realize what was going on.  Not when they were so close to achieving their objective.  But she wasn't going to stay in the room with Mr. Snuggly either.  So she was out in front of the dorms, going over her list of ingredients she'd need for the opening ( Read more... )

Jack was on his way to class, even though he'd been reluctant to leave Cedric. When he spotted Lana, he froze, but no way in hell he was going to hide because of her.

Pasting on his most reckless grin, he walked out across the lawn. Pretending to ignore her.

Jack felt a tiny twinge of guilt, but it was nothing compared to the fear that was starting to curl up his spine. Jaw clenched, he refused to answer.

"Such a high opinion you have of yourself," she said musingly, taking a seat on the bench near him and smiling coldly up at him. "Most amusing. I have all her memories here. All her wants, needs, dreams, longings. You think she would have risked the one she loves, who makes her his whole world, for you? She knows that she'd never be truly important in your life, knows how far down your list she'd come. It's almost enough to make me let her out just one more time to show her how little she truly has and watch her break into little pieces."

She smirked. "But that's neither here nor there. The question is... what do I do with you now?"

"Let me go," he said flatly. "Sam found me last time, she'll find me again."

"Ooooh," she said, delightedly. "And there is my answer!"

She thought for a moment, then made a gesture and spoke a series of words. "You, of course, won't remember any of the important parts of this conversation. What you will remember is that you learned something that makes you suspect that this whole thing was a set-up arranged by Sam and Cedric and they asked Lana to help them out. The details of how? Well, your devious little mind can make them up. All you need to know is that you think they may have played you. That they used you as you have used so many others. Not that you'll want to confront them directly. You wouldn't want to let them know what you suspect."

Isobel smirked at him. "Yes, I think that should just about do it. Any last words before I release the spell?"

Jack bared his teeth at her. "When they slice you open and stake you out still screaming for the crows, I'm going to be there to watch."

"I laughed while they burned me alive at the stake," Isobel said proudly. "Your pitiful threats mean nothing to me. And now alas, I shall let you go."

She gestured absently and spoke the last word needed to release the spell. "Goodbye, Jack," she said sweetly.

Jack staggered, blinking as he stared at Lana, heart sinking. He couldn't believe it. They wouldn't do that to him. They loved him. He knew they did, but...

Shaking his head, he backed away, "No." He would not believe that. It wasn't true.

He kept repeating it, over and over in his head like a mantra, as he turned and walked away.
