Hamlet wandered down to the second floor common room in the evening. It might have been a force of habit. It might have been an inner Cupcake Sensor beeping like mad. It might have been a total coincidence.

In any case, he entered the room to see D'anna watching TV, and the counters covered with baked treats.

"It looks as though you bought J,GOB out of cupcakes. Are expecting someone?" he asked.

"Hiya, Darkest Cheerleader! How's it going?" D greeted with a smile. "No, not really. Someone once told me that people eat a lot of cake here on their birthdays so I bought a lot of cake. Only this kind doesn't need sliced!"

"About the same as usual," he said, raising at eyebrow at the nickname and grabbing a seat on the couch.

"That tends to be the usual custom on these parts of Earth, although it's often a bit less than this. And a Happy Birthday to you! How old are you turning this year?"

"Thank you! Eighteen." D said before taking another bite of her cupcake. "What's the standard amount for cake?"

That last might have sounded a bit more like 'waffs da sandard amof fa cake?' cause, ya know, eating cupcake and talking weren't the smarts combination ever.

"I had no idea how easily entertained you were." D winked and giggled. Yes, she knew, it was just fun to say. "Nah, it's my birthday, but wasn't in the mood to make a big deal out of it, so, cupcakes for all!"

"Alex!" D left her spot on the couch, threw her arms around him and kissed him. "No gods, just me."

He hugged her back, speechless a moment until he pulled back to look at her. "It's your birthday," he said, blinking. "I can't... Oh my god, I forgot."
