There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could work on their tan while they ate, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool and non-crispy

Cosima had spent most of the break back in San Fran, hanging out with her old friends and feeling oddly out of place. It was hard not to seem a little different when you'd learned magic and alternate dimensions were real.
She managed to leave her laptop up in her room and make it down to the picnic, where she performed her Fandomite duties of scarfing vast amounts of food and ogling the attractive people. She considered stripping down to a bikini top herself, but that seemed to be taking it a touch too far.

Ringo spotted Cosima and took a moment to think. She knew the other girl's name... it was... Ah! "Cosima!" she called, walking over. "Hey!" She was grinning. "How was your summer?"
She didn't know the other girl all that well, but that could always be remedied!

"Hey, Ringo," Cosima said easily, patting the grass beside herself if Ringo wanted to sit down. "It was good, actually.I spent the last couple weeks back home detoxing from the whole alien thing. How was yours?"
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2015]soniaroadsqueenAugust 29 2015, 18:46:53 UTC
"Well," Ringo mused, folding herself down into a comfortable sitting position, "other than that alien thing, it was awesome. I got to do all sorts of cool stuff for my classes."
She frowned slightly. "So, I guess good other than that one week?"

"Tokyo," Ringo answered, looking nostalgic for a moment. Then she shook that off.
"And they weren't really that bad. But I'd say that my average summer before had at least two or three weeks that weren't awesome." Some had actually been bad, but for the most part they had just been, well, less than awesome.

"I wish I could go to Tokyo," Cosima told her wistfully. "It just seems like the coolest city. I get why you miss it, even if there were some non-awesome weeks in there."

"You could come back with me sometime when I go visit my family," Ringo offered. "I don't know if I'd make much of a tour guide, but I'd be glad to show you around."
She grinned. "At least I know where some of the best food is."
"Um." Ringo looked suddenly awkward. "I mean. If you wanted to."

"Wow, um, that's ... generous," Cosima said, blinking because yeah, that was a little awkward coming from someone she didn't know particularly well. She wondered whether Ringo was flirting; she couldn't always tell. "You're really sweet to offer. Do you go home a whole lot?"
Re: General Mingling [Fall 2015]soniaroadsqueenAugust 30 2015, 02:19:24 UTC
"Sorry about that." Ringo shook her head, then shrugged helplessly. "I guess I'm a bit too, I don't know, forward? I want to be friends with everyone. It's like I didn't have time for it for a long time, and I'm in a rush to make up for it."
"As to family, well, not exactly? It's just me and my sisters. I don't think that the four of us really counts as 'big', right?"

She pursed her lips slightly. "How were things back home?" she asked. "Actually," Ringo looked a bit sheepish, "where is home for you?"

"But I go home every couple of months or so? At least I have so far. I'm pretty close with my sisters."
