There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could work on their tan while they ate, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool and non-crispy ( Read more... )

This was Anders' fourth or so Welcome Picnic, though it seemed like so many more. By now, it was almost routine: Take too much food, find a place by the trees to sit, and watch for anybody who was attractive, looked as though they might have heard of Thedas, or both.

Well, Thorin liked to consider himself attractive, but he was not from Thedas. And yet he was still walking over. Prepare yourself, Anders.

"Cassandra has returned."

"Did she?" Anders asked, looking around for the girl. He sighed when he spotted her armor. "Oh, good. I was starting to forget that I'm a risk to everyone around me. Now she'll be here to remind me."

The funny thing was, he actually was happy to see Cassandra. She was familiar and predictable, two things in short supply around Fandom.

"I suppose I should go welcome her back."

Thorin gave him a consoling pat on the shoulder. "You two have a strange friendship that I dare say I will never understand."

"Maybe she would be at that," Anders admitted. "It is nice to have her around, you know. There's nothing like the relief of a familiar rival in a strange place."

Anders smiled tightly and patted Thorin's shoulder. "Don't worry. I'm sure somebody from your world will show up sometime and they'll be just as much fun as Cassandra."

Again, Dragon Age didn't get the elf/dwarf memo.
