Outdoor Adventure Time!, part 2, Tuesday, period 1

Jul 21, 2015 00:54

Class met today on the sand below the boardwalk, where the geography of the island kept the waves to a minimum, allowing for greater underwater visibility. Eliot, wearing a pair of swimshorts and a tank top, was holding a swim mask and giving it a suspicious look. There were other masks, tanks, fins, vests, and other equipment carefully set in a ( Read more... )

Kathy stood behind the equipment, ready to hand out either snorkels or SCUBA gear to anyone who asked for it.

What was so odd about this equipment that Eliot kept giving it such suspicious looks? Cosette was curious now, so she went over to peer at the swim masks to see if she could figure that out.

She couldn't, but honestly it was the snorkel she really thought was odd anyway.

Some basic rules being laid down, and Parker and Eliot in the water keeping an eye on everyone, take your underwater cameras, and have fun!

Bonus points if you get a selfie with an octopus.

Kathy wasn't SCUBA-certified, but that wasn't going to stop her from trying it out anyway. She listened to the rules and as soon as it was feasible, dove in to explore what lurked under the water.

Ringo was torn. She knew that she wasn't really much of a swimmer. Sure, she could not-drown pretty well, but she wasn't sure that was enough to try the SCUBA thing.

But she really, really wanted to try the SCUBA thing.

Life was full of difficult decisions.

Was Cosette SCUBA-certified? Absolutely not. Was that going to stop her from taking a camera and some SCUBA gear and giving it a try anyway?

Of course it wasn't, and after twenty minutes or so of fiddling around with the equipment until she thought she could reasonably maneuver underwater, she took her camera and was snapping away.

The pictures probably weren't that good, and weren't of anything particularly noteworthy, but she was taking pictures of things underwater, and that was amazing enough in itself, all right?

They know sign language and may be talking to each other under water.

Did you know that you could swim grumpily?

Eliot's just that talented.

Would being able to bounce help her underwater? Let’s find out.

The hardest part about being a TA was making sure she was around enough to be useful and still get in all the exploring she wanted.

As for being bouncy--everyone was bouncy beneath the waves. But it was so much slower. If being below the waves wasn't so gorgeous, Kathy would actually be a little annoyed by it.
