Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2013, Early Saturday Evening [Part 2]

May 04, 2013 15:07

As the last graduate took his seat with his diploma, a faint rumble rattled the folding chairs.

The noise grew louder and the tremors grew worse and true to Fandom graduation protocols, a invisible, impenetrable dome came down to separate the graduates from the rest of the audience.

The rumble faded away into uneasy silence.

Then:

WTF earthquakes! React to being walled away from the graduates! Wonder about the Digletts!

Zayne had his hand on his lightsaber if anything threatening made its way out into the audience, but otherwise he figured they were actually safe and the graduates could handle this.

Bruce was no longer in his seat.

If someone was being VERY observant, they may have noticed a dark figure almost perfectly hidden in a nearby tree. The Batman was waiting for a threat to spill outside the wall.

Once it was clear this wouldn't happen, he was gone.

Toward the end of the fighting, Bruce made his way back to his seat with a flask in hand. "I didn't miss the whole thing, did I?"

Kate looked surprised, but only for about a dozen seconds or so. That was about as long as it took to realize something like this had happened at every graduation she'd been a part of.

Everyone would be fine. She was sure. Mostly.

There are giant ACME Hammers in those boxes for those of you who might not have prepared for having to deal with the dozens of adorable Digletts, the occasional Dugtrio, and some generic whack-a-moles at graduation!

There are also chairs to climb on top of and yell bloody murder if that's more your style.

Arm yourself (with the giant hammers or whatever you brought with you) and get to whacking!

[OOC: Ping us down in the OOC thread and we'll send someone after you!]

Natalie wasn't even surprised.

She had a giant hammer, yes, although the graduation robe didn't entirely keep her from executing some successful kicks too.

"DIGLETT-DIG! DIGLETT-DIG!"

This little Diglett was literally jittering with excitement to be here! Or... no, actually, that wasn't what he was doing. He was going too fast too deliberately for that to be a genuine happy jitter--

--and then the ground started shaking around him.

"DIGLETT-DIG! DIGLETT-DIG!"

Several dozen of his friends popped up out of the ground to follow suit. Hold on to your hats, kids. These Digletts aren't stopping.

Neither are the localized earthquakes. Was that the empty graduate seating section that just tumbled into a fissure in the ground? Why yes, yes it was.

After the Digletts and friends have been properly be-whacked, a cackling laugh echoed from...somewhere...and the pests that were still left by the graduates disappeared in puffs of smoke.

That wasn't creepy at all, really.

The invisible barrier lifted to release the smoke--and the graduated.

[OOC: Reactions, ho! Meet up with friends and family and try to explain what happened!]

And lo, Natalie Adams had graduated! And survived graduation without a scratch on her. And getting her phone out from her pocket underneath the robe informed her that her parents were stuck at a Portalocity hub in a 22nd century Caracas.

She could actually have felt happier right now. Definitely.

Sam knew she could handle herself in a fight so he wasn't concerned about her there. But, she didn't look all that good when he saw her through the crowd of people.

He made his way over and said, "You all right?"

That wasn't a voice Natalie had expected to hear right now. She blinked as she looked up, surprised. "Yeah," she said, mostly rationalizing to herself. She'd see her parents later. It was not the end of the world.

It just sucked a lot.

Or a whack-a-mole or a Dugtrio, if you have a preference.
